5.0 out of 5 stars The reason I like this book is because...., January 14, 2011
By
Ned Middleton (British professional underwater photo-journalist & author) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: ABS for Life: The No. 1 Solution on How to Get Six Pack Abs (Paperback)
Fitness is a personal thing. It is a frame of mind and, for those reasons I will draw on my own years of experience with fitness for this review so that you can see where I am coming from. I joined the British army at the age of 15 and enjoyed a great career. I was regimental champion at middle and long distance running (mile, 1500m, 5,000m, cross country etc) and even passed SAS Selection just to serve alongside those elite soldiers. I also served with all three battalions of the Parachute Regiment. I retired from the army in 1993 and still work very hard at keeping fit. In May 2010 I turned 60 years old and I am still a regular visitor to my local Gym.

For far too many years, however, I thought good Abdominal muscles were achieved through hundreds of sit-ups and the degree of severity of those sit-ups. What started (many years ago) as a straight forward routine gradually got more difficult as the foot of my sit-up bench was raised more and more until I was doing 100 sit-ups with my body vertical (Yes, even at 60!). Let me save you all a lot of time and tell you NOW! It made no difference to my Abs at all. None whatsoever.

The reason I like this book is because of a quote found right at the beginning which sets the scene for this work. It reads; "Abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym" and once the reader understands and accepts that simple principle, you can start thinking of eight packs instead of six. In short, your Abs are there - all you have to do is reveal them. Being published by SPN Fitness Group - as opposed to a publisher with no inherent knowledge of fitness and diet, is another factor in favour of this work if only because no fitness organisation would wish to be associated with the wrong message.

So what do we get; Commencing with two forewords by successful athletes, author Neil Frost gets down to basics by telling the reader what is required as far as diet is concerned. He then explains protein, carbohydrates and other important aspects of food (I like that because so many people think everyone already knows!) with a list of his own recommendations for good and bad before concluding with a nutritional summary. This period of real learning is then followed by a number of meals ideas and includes that all-important breakfast plus mid-morning, lunch, mid-afternoon, dinner, late-evening and pre and post-workout meals, desserts and water intake.

Next up is the recommended fitness regime which is too lengthy to repeat here except to say he covers every part of the body before coming back to nutrition with his plan for feeding muscle. And this very positive message continues. I especially like his inclusion of those favourites which we all think we should be using but few of us know why - such as Whey Protein and Green Tea (to name but two). Then after yet another section on Cardio we finally get around to those Abs - and by now we fully understand what is happening and why.

In summary, with this book you get to rethink your own eating habits and, in so doing, afford yourself the opportunity to give yourself a complete body makeover. Food is explained in conjunction with ideas for meal and diet plans. In addition we have the various fitness routines which take care of the entire body and, having studied so many of these products recently, I regard this as complete a work on the subject as you might hope to find. As is stated on the back cover; "Abs for life will show you how to get lean and stay lean for life." The rest, of course, is up to you.

Just to show how impressed I am with this product, I actually found myself looking for something to criticise - and I found it. The "Contents" right at the beginning is wrongly headed "Index"! Seriously, that was all I found. Quite frankly, after so many disappointments, it is a pleasure to give this product a richly deserved 5 Star rating - so get to it, buy a copy and get to work. And good luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you want abs buy this book, December 12, 2008
This review is from: ABS for Life: The No. 1 Solution on How to Get Six Pack Abs (Paperback)
I used to often buy all the workout magazines you see in the stores. Abs in 4 weeks! Eat the junk and still get a six pack! All these cover stories get you to buy the magazine, but in reality these are unrealistic goals. Sure if you run 15 miles a days and were to eat just grapes and prune juice you would lose weight, but hardly anyone has the time to do these plans or would want to eat such boring food for any protracted period of time. I have brought many workout books over the years and they tend to concentrate on the exercises and when it comes to diet its eat more protein, eat less junk, thanks for the cash, see you later.

This book is different. Unlike the recycled articles in the magazines written by pot-bellied journalists, this book is written by Neil Frost a man not scared to show a picture of himself and the results he has achieved following his own program. Achieving a six pack is within your grasp if you have the discipline to stick to the principles laid down in this book.

The program takes about 12 weeks and if you check out his website then you can see before and after pictures together with testimonials of people that have succeeded with this lifestyle program. I say lifestyle, as exercise will account for very little of your time. You don't need to spend hours in the gym. The biggest part of the program is learning what you should be eating and when and this is fully covered in the book together with recipe ideas.

The exercise section is well thought out and easy to follow, the diet section is in depth but straightforward.

If you have the willpower to stick to this program, you will see impressive results. I know i have.

There is also a DVD for this program which is also worth a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Investment!, December 10, 2008
By
Ricardo Fernandez (San Luis Obispo, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ABS for Life: The No. 1 Solution on How to Get Six Pack Abs (Paperback)
I have just started following the Abs for Life System for about 3 weeks now and I've lost 9 pounds and an inch off my waist so far. I have trained on and off for about ten years now and this is no word of a lie, I've actually learned more from reading this book than I have in those ten years of reading all the fitness mags. I like the fact that although the book emphasizes on getting abs, it also provides a plan for building muscle all over your body. Myself and a few buddies at my gym have all been following the muscle building plan contained in the book.

Nutrition is covered extensively. As the author points out, forget sculpting great abs and a great body if you cannot nail your diet. I have learned so much about food I could write my own book on the topic! The meal suggestions were great and especially liked the guilt free desserts that were listed.

I like the approach of this system as it is maintainable not just short term, but I can see myself sticking to this for years to come. I will update this review in 12 weeks, but wanted to write something now as I am soo pleased with the results.

Please read this book, for under $16, it really is a sound investment. Bravo!
