Editorial Reviews

Review

Classic Rock Magazine (UK), January 2011
“One of those books that actually lives up to its title, this may not be the ultimate AC/DC biography—we’re still waiting for that—but is easily one of the finest books on the band published so far.
“Rammed to the rafters with absolutely brilliant pictures combing their entire career – many of which you absolutely will not have seen before, and almost all of which are stunningly brilliant – the design alone deserves some kind of aware for its colourful ingenuity, and the way it captures the sense of fuck-it fun that has always permeated the best of AC/DC’s adventures.
“Collectors will also delight in the numerous previously unseen pix from all eras, and the wonderful collation of memorabilia, including original Australia-only vinyl record sleeves, tickets and posters. There are also some nicely judged essays from writers besides the estimable Sutcliffe himself. Fair dinkum, mate!”
Guitarist Magazine, January 2011
“This tome is a beautiful visual history of an amazing band, complete with stories of their beginnings, their steady rise to fame, and the shocking loss of frontman Bon Scott. Then you get the story of the group's second career, beginning with the smash album Back in Black. You can hear the sound of those guitars in every photo."

Fantastic job on this book!! Much like any of the Voyageur Press releases about rock n roll artists, this new book about AC/DC certainly does the band justice, and as a huge AC/DC fan, I must agree! It is packed with great never before seen photos, awesome collectibles, records, memorabilia and other rarities, and some great album reviews by different authors to give a variety of perspectives about AC/DC's history and career. I love it and would recommend buying it, it's definitely one of the very best AC/DC books to come out, well worth the read. GREAT font cover too, you have to see it to believe it!

The spinner is a clever touch, I must say, and it works surprisingly well. Too bad the publisher doesn't post some sort of vid or .gif to demonstrate it; this static .jpeg just doesn't get the idea across. Not a lot new to say where Acca/Dacca's history is concerned, of course, but the main history is well written, plus this thing is PACKED with photos and memorabilia and new pieces from top hard rock journos that all make it well worth the price. Full of color and nicely designed too. A reverent tribute to a decidedly irreverent band.

AC/DC: High-Voltage Rock 'n Roll: The Ultimate Illustrated History is simply a 'must' for any library strong in rock n roll music history. AC/DC has over thirty years of concerts and recordings to their name, and this tribute packs in over 400 images including live performances, handbill and gig poster reproductions, photos of their career at all stages, and sidebars of rock information from many sources. Add a specially commissioned band history and definitive discography and you have an outstanding winner!

Great! I bought the books for my boyfriend. He was not sure which book it was he heard about, so the package of 3 at such a great price was perfect. The book was in there & now he has a collection to catch up on!
The books were here in what seemed like almost the very next day with the Amazon Prime.
The price was good. Everything was really a good deal!

This was a good basic overview of the band AC/DC, but really didn't go too deep into any aspects of the members' personalities. Since the book wasn't hyped as a definitive biography, I guess that shouldn't have been expected or a surprise. So to be honest, I really don't know much more about the group than I did before reading.
Instead it was billed as the ultimate illustrated history. The illustrations include a lot of flyers, posters, tickets and cover images of AC/DC album and single releases from various countries. Like many groups including The Beatles and The Rolling Stones early in their careers, AC/DC had different album covers depending on where they were released. Some were basically the same or very similar with different coloring or in many cases, different cartoon illustrations. Others were completely different, which made comparisons interesting.
I would've requested more rare shots of the band on stage and off with both Bonn Scott and Brian Johnson. And like I said, it gave a decent overview of these guys and more so deservedly, the Young brothers Angus and Malcom who started the band and keep it rolling. Each disk and song were also reviewed and remembered. But since the focus was on "illustrated" I hate to admit (and this is a callback folks) that I don't know much more about how the group looked at different stages of their long career than I did before reading.
Though diehard fans would probably want more, this was a good introduction to the band. It'll make you want to expand your collection of AC/DC disks and scream along with Bonn and Brian, but I consider it to be the warm-up act for a definitive biography.
