Photoshop+Coreldraw+Illustrator...=Canvas,

This review is from: Canvas 7.0 for Powermac (CD-ROM)
I've used Canvas 5 for three years and am using Canvas 7 now too. Since I don't read manuals except as a last resort, I love Canvas because alot of the features can be figured out with little help. It seems that I learn how to use this application for something new everytime I sit down to use it. Making greeting cards, meal calendars, web graphics, business cards, company logos, animations, and even keeping a journal. Many of the small features are wonderful too (like seeing each font in the font list as it actually would appear in type). On top of Canvas program itself, the company (Deneba)has been very friendly and responsive to my questions and suggestions.

I've been using Canvas since version 5 and upgraded to Canvas 7 around Christmas '99. This is an outstanding application. Working in Canvas 7, you can do just about anything - import and edit bitmapped images, create vector art and apply bitmap image filters to vector artwork. Everything remains completely editable. Exports to just about any format you need. After using Canvas I find Illustrator and Freehand lacking. Canvas 7's transparency effects are first rate. You really won't believe what you can do with this feature. Makes what Illustrator 9 offers laughable, especially since Canvas has had vector transparency since version 6 came out two years ago. And it comes in two flavors. One for pro users who need to generate color separations/postscript files and another version for home users who print to color inkjets or design web graphics.

Canvas Rocks,

Canvas is so much better than Adobe products - you have all the programs in one - much easier than using Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator

I also like the multiple levels of undo and the fact that Canvas can use the same plugins that Adobe programs use (like Eyecandy). Old Canvas Still Beats Illustrator CS4,

I am running out of options, since I refuse to move to Illustrator CS4 or 5, except for 'special' situations. Canvas 3.0.6 and this 7 and also ver. X are so far superior to Illustrator's over-loaded (who needs that feature), bloated, unintuitive, piece of junk code. I highly recommend Canvas 7 drawing package for scientific drawings and graphics. I use it daily, drawing first in Canvas 3.0.6 in layers and then into 7 for creating an .eps! Just a toss and save.
Unfortunately, you will have to have an old Mac with an older OS 10 that supports OS 9 running along with OS 10 to use it. Or an older PC with Windows XP. Well worth hanging back from newer OS's and being forced to use crummy Illustrator. If I could deal with a PC and the buggy MS OSs, I might move to Canvas 11, but nothing would make me deal with MS issues. I just do not have the time luxury to deal with the constant MS OS updates, viruses (updating of virus software), trojans and all the rest of the time wasting found in the PC environment. I value my time and I have been very spoiled by Deneba, ACD and Apple. |
