Its like a trip to the Candy store,
By "deadpixel" (digital download heaven) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ACD SYSTEMS ACDSee 4.0 (CD-ROM)
I've been in love with ACDSee since the early days. Even before the "classic" version. It is the best image viewer on the market period. If you have a huge collection of photos either from downloads or that spiffy new digital camera you need this program. I have yet to find a image format ACDSee doesn't read and display faster then all others.ACDSee version 4 does all the things version 3.X did and more. It has a wide variety of image editing tools that you can use to create, edit and touch-up your digital images. Tools, like Red-eye reduction, crop, sharpen, convert to sepia tones, and emboss. There are several tools such as exposure adjustment, convert, resize, rename, rotate and mirror, that can be performed on multiple files at the same time. Which can make this product worth the price all by it's self. My only concerns are the way it looks compared to version 3.X. It seems they added these candy looking buttons that are a little too big for my taste. The preview pane no longer can be moved from left to right and center. The browser portion seems more crowded now but in time you'll find that the controls are faster with this new configuration. The candy like button at the top of the browser should be more customizable, not only smaller but I want more control of what's up there. Normally when a new version of an already great product comes out and looks so different I ask myself "Did they just make it pretty so they can charge us again or is this really a `new' version?" I can honestly tell you they made a new version. ACDSee was already the fastest viewer around but now it feels even faster, everything seems to run smoother as well. It used to be if you didn't view a large photo at it's full size it just didn't look right, that problem has been fixed. Now viewing at any size looks fantastic. This is the program to get if you take digital photos or even if you still use a 35mm camera and scan them into your computer (new acquire button yea!).

NO CUSTOMER support,
By A Customer
This review is from: ACD SYSTEMS ACDSee 4.0 (CD-ROM)
I had trouble with the registration system of the ACDSee ver 4.0.You cannot "e-mail" them without the registration number. I placed a call to the ACDSYSTEMS. I NEVER received a reply. After 3 hours on my own I figured out the registration problem. I was able to get the program loaded into the computer. I had trouble using the REDEYE remover. I was able to organize some folders and it looked like it was going to be "OK" but: Bottom line, NO CUSTOMER support. I would NOT recommend this product based on the POOR customer relations. I am using Win 98 O/S

I purchased this product for a windows 98 system and was unable to get it to run. I consider myself quite knowledgeable in this area.Customer support is unresponsive and said I needed version 4.1.They did not respond as to what I was supposed to do next and as a result I have since returned the product to Amazon.I understand earlier versions are supposed to be quite good but at least for my operating system it did not work.

ACDSee has a nice mix of funtions but it also has some problems. For me the biggest draw back is that it stops painting the thumbnails after I've been working for a while. Granted, I work with a lot of images (many thousands) but they claim it should handle it. Stopping and restarting the program gets it working again, but only for a while - and who doesn't love doing that!?. Support has been no help. Printing is weak - probably because they want to sell you an add on component. My advice would be to look elsewhere.

I have taken nearly 4000 photos with my digital camera. I've had a really hard time viewing them on my old (300MHz) computer. Searching to find a picture I wanted was very difficult and time consuming. Then, I got ACDSee 4.0. It's spectacular!! It quickly shows me all of the images in my directory. When I load new pictures from my camera, I can page through each one very quickly. It displays each image in well under a second - even on my old computer! It is so much easier to view and find the pictures I want now, and I never thought I'd see this kind of performance without buying a new, faster computer. It also comes with a simple photo editor. I mostly just use the standard "fix it" feature on it. It adjusts the pictures very well to fix any exposure, color or lighting problems - much better than the Adobe Photodeluxe that came with my digital camera. I had no problem at all with installation or use, so I never had to call for customer support.

Version 4.02 is stable and good,

I initally upgraded from Acdsee 3.1 SR1 to 4.0, and like a lot of people had stability problems, but 4.02 has proved very stable.I prefer Acdsee to ThumbsPlus or Compupic Pro. E-mailing via Acdsee is simple - I love it. Thumbnails in Acdsee also seem to be much clearer than in the competing products I tried. I also like the way I can click on a thumbnail image and choose the image editor I want to automatically open it in - Photoshop/PaintShop etc. Acdsee version 5 I hear will be available from the beginning of October 2002.

I needed this for Win 98 and it worked great. Now with Vista it is unnecessary, plus it was bundled with a new HP printer package. So if you need it great, but check your computer's apps before you spend any money on it. It's kinda outdated now.
