I haven't found any treasures yet but I have found things so I have to say it works, keeps me hopeful that that big nugget is waiting for me to find it.

I have had my Ace 350 now for over a year and it works as good today as it did the day I bought it. My initial testing of the unit found quarter sized targets at 11 - 12 inches and dime sized targets at 9 - 10 inches in the air. I have used it in my test garden and on dry beaches with about an inch less in depth results. Playgrounds are great too.

Air testing with nuggets demonstrated a minimum of 1 gram in size at a depth of about 4.

The discrimination settings are fantastic and make it a turn on and go detector. Learning it has been fun and I get better with target ID each time I go out. I love being able to isolate a junk target and reject it. It still pops up on the display but the sound isn't there to distract you from your hunting. The depth indicator is fairly accurate too. I have had it alert me to 2 coins on top of each other with 2 inches depth difference. Nice.

If I could improve this unit it would be its performance in salt water or salty wet sands. It sounds off randomly and repeatedly in salt watery conditions so the sensitivity has to be reduced greatly. I have not had much success - any in fact - in salt water and would recommend not using this device if that is your primary hunting ground.

Dry sands / ground and fresh water have not given me any problems, in fact I followed a guy on a beach who had a 9 inch coil on his shooter and found a pocket drop of quarters ($1.75) that he walked right over and completely missed.

I will NOT trade mine when it comes time to buy a salt water shooter if that tells you anything. It's too good to let go of.

1st timers, coin and relic hunters - you won't go wrong with this unit.

This metal detector is at the "sweet spot" in this category. It is more powerful, accurate, and informative than the special-of-the week units at stores; at the same time it is far less expensive than many middle of the road detectors.

Good balance and low overall weight are crucial, if you are going to be seeking finds for any extended period of time--the Ace 350 is very good in both areas. Having a good audible alarm is also important, especially if you are covering irregular ground.

In the sub-$500 range, this is a best buy.

THIS IS A GREAT UNIT FOR A BEGINNER. I TRIED 2 OTHER UNITS BEFORE FINDING THIS ONE, BOTH OTHER UNITS WERE BIG NAME COMAPANIES, BUT THE UNITS WERE TOO COMPLICATED TO OPERATE AND OFTEN GAVE FALSE SIGNALS. THIS UNIT HAS PRE-PROGRAMMED SEARCHES YOU CAN PLUG IN SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO FIDDLE WITH CONTROLS TO DISCRIMINATE THE ITEMS THAT YOU ARE SEARCHING FOR. THE UNIT IS ALSO VERY COMFORTABLE TO USE AND EASILY ADJUSTABLE FOR MULTIPLE USERS OF DIFFERENT HEIGHTS. THIS UNIT WAS RECOMMENDED TO ME BY AN EXPERT IN THE FIELD AND HE WAS RIGHT!Garrett Ace 350 Metal Detector W/8.5" X 11" Searchcoil & Headphones

I love my Ace 350, and other positive reviews are in line with my opinions. I have been using mine frequently for about a month or so now and have been finding lots of clad coins and a few silver. I was curious about coin depth sensing possibilities so I air tested (not as good as soil, but just wanted a quick test -- and my soil is not very mineralized here anyway) this morning. (Please read the following in full) I got about 9"-10" on pennies, dimes, and quarters clad and silver and my 18 karat gold mens size wedding ring (which was chiming in on the machine as a penny, fyi). Then I remembered that my battery meter was showing about 50% charge. I put in fresh AA's (alkaline cells, not rechargeable, which are 1.2v, not the 1.5v of alkalines) and was getting several more inches. Coins and ring were now giving solid (in air) signals out to 12" -13". (Sensitivity at max, most sensitive)

Anyway, air testing is not a reliable indicator of actual depth in soil, but it is at least logical to theorize that sensing depth in soil could be significantly increased with fresh batteries. I know I will try to avoid detecting again with 50% charge batteries.

I used to have a metal detector as a kid. It was fun finding coins and using them to buy candy bars and sodas when my parents didn't want me to eat before supper. That being said after years (decades actually because I am 51 years old), my interest never really went away so after a month almost of careful research I decided upon the Garrett Ace 350. The reviews were all good plus there are a lot of videos on Youtube of this metal detector. The large search coil caught my interest over the Ace 250 but I'm sure it too would also be a good choice if your budget was smaller. That being said I haven't had a good opportunity to use it yet except for just a few minutes. It detected something buried in my front yard that registered at least 8 inches deep. After digging with a very bad digging tool I recovered a car part. It looked like a stainless steel piece of tubing you might see on an air conditioning unit or other engine part. It was about 7 inches long and must have been in the ground for many years. It was worthless but interesting since it made no sense to as "why" it was there. The Garrett company has been in business since 1964 and you don't stay in business that long by making junk. Also the founder was in WWII and the products are made in the USA which I also liked. I am very pleased about the weight of the product, being that it is lightweight, plus the features it has which you can read about in dozens of other reviews. Please note it does come with headphones even though it doesn't always say that in the product description. They are comfortable and descent for the job. Also they have a volume control on the cable for the headphones. I suffer hearing loss so they really helped out.Read more ›
