4.0 out of 5 stars Great product till it stretched out
so i had sprained my foot and i need a wrap for it so i went to the brand i know and trusted. sadly they had replaced the old fabric ones with a self adhesive one.

after a few days of working 8-10 hours and being on my feet the entire time the bandage stretched out about 7 inches on each side. i still have to have my foot wrapped so i'm still using it but i...

3.0 out of 5 stars I hate the new ACE.
I'm a little klutzy. Wait, let me tell you that I've been to the ER probably 10 times (broken bones, burns, freak accident). So I was adept at using the old Ace bandages.

These new bandages are often too tight and cut off circulation. The self-adhesive feature wears off quickly, preventing more than one use. If the bandage is too tight and you want to...

4 stars for value of item ($5.52)

other wise it should have gotten 3 because it wore out to quick

3.0 out of 5 stars I hate the new ACE., January 17, 2011

I'm a little klutzy. Wait, let me tell you that I've been to the ER probably 10 times (broken bones, burns, freak accident). So I was adept at using the old Ace bandages.

These new bandages are often too tight and cut off circulation. The self-adhesive feature wears off quickly, preventing more than one use. If the bandage is too tight and you want to rewrap, the self-adhesive is unlikely to hold. These bandages stretch and fall off, worse than the old Ace product that usually stayed put once you fastened it down. Also these let less air in so your skin sweats, gets stinky and itchy. Skin needs to breath and cannot do that if it is in elastic.

Wish I could still buy the old ones, even if off-brand.

This is a good product and it suits my needs. I do wish that the adhesive functionality works longer. That functionality was effectively non-existent after the first day...

1.0 out of 5 stars It's a joker, not an Ace., July 7, 2011

Look - If there is any way for me to buy one of the cloth ones - with clips or velcro - that is the way I will go in the future. I bought one of these and it sucked.

I was finishing my first day of what turned out to be five days of moving from one apartment to another. The first day was furniture day and right before going to bed, I tried to move something in my new apartment and felt a "pop" in my ankle. All night long, if I bumped my foot or twist it slightly, the pain was excruciating. I thought for sure I would have to go to the ER because I was going to be putting a lot of stress on my ankles during my move, if the first day was any indication.

I bought one of these and it worked great the first day. However, as the week went on, I had more and more trouble with the band sticking to my socks as I tried to put them on. The bandage tended to roll up as I pulled the sock past it -rather than lay flat - even the band that wrapped around my foot at the arch. It was frustrating because the band seemed to tighten up when this happened and was useless for the task intended.

This just seems like the idea was to create a product that was more expensive than the original ("no clips required!")and that needed to be replaced more frequently (by the end of the week, I had to throw it out).

At best - this product is a joker, not an Ace.

There's nothing like an ace bandage. I hadn't needed on in years and I was pleasantly surprised at the new self sticking one. It beats the heck out of the old metal clips that I always lost

1.0 out of 5 stars Ok at first, then deteriorates to uselessness, July 20, 2011
This review is from: ACE Self Adhesive (Athletic) Bandage (Blister) 4" (Health and Beauty)
I agree with the criticisms of the other reviewers:

* The "self-adhesive" feature works alright to begin with, but then slowly loses stickiness with repeated uses, and also cloth lint and dust stick to it, making it grungy and reducing effectiveness further.

* It also sticks too much to body hair, pulling it at times.

* It adheres too well to the skin, causing some discomfort if you place this on a part of your body which is moving regularly.

* It is stretchy enough at first, but over time stretches out more and more and recoils less and less, resulting in a bandage that doesn't wrap much better than a non-elastic piece of cloth.

* As it becomes less sticky, it becomes more comfortable to wear, but is also much less effective at providing necessary support and at staying in place.

* As stickiness fades, the bandage no longer self-adheres and then the ends have to be wrapped underneath other layers to keep the bandage from falling off completely during use.

I purchased regular Mueller elastic bandages for less money (to replace these "self-adhesive" Ace bandages) and the Mueller bandages are much more effective at providing support right out of the box and they come with the usual clips that hold the bandages in place properly. I can't imagine what I could use these now NON-adhesive Ace bandages for: maybe for temporary wraps indoors when I am not going to be moving about much--otherwise I would just throw them away.
