This is an excellent, detailed guide to first aid procedures. It is clearly written and contains plenty of photographs. It covers CPR, Mouth to Mouth, Shock, Burns, Bleeding, and a number of other medical conditions (heart attack, asthma, etc.). All in all, it is a comprehensive treatise on first aid procedures.
However, do not buy this book and expect to refer to it in a **dire** emergency. The book is much too long and the principles of **emergency** first aid are not something that you can learn during an emergency. If you buy this book, read it before you put in with your emergency kit. Better yet, take a first aid and CPR class, and then read this book every year as a refresher. If you encounter a medical situation that is not dire, you may have time to refer to the book. It is well-organized and each section is easy to find. However, you might be better off calling 911 first....

Great Reference!,

I was really thankful for this book when I had to play camp nurse for a week, and am not especially trained in all things first aid. When should you send someone to the hospital? It's there. What can you do for those emergency personnel to be arriving soon? It's there. Many pictures for those visual people and covers most first aid scenarios that could happen from the head to the toe. It shows how to use what you have in most cases, but also what is helpful to have if you are in preparation mode. It's easy to refer to with color coded pages, and short, easy to read instructions on what to do, but also gives information on what might be happening and how to tell the difference between a strain and a sprain for example. From sprains and abrasions to heart attacks and heatstrokes, it is a very helpful tool for the medically trained and for those who are not trained in the medical field. I highly recommend it.

This book is so good all other first aid books should be used as fuel. It has concise illustrations and procedures that are as intuitive as possible in an emergency situation. Go no further.
