I have used this code for two reinforced concrete design classes so far. There is still lots for me to learn. I have not read any previous versions of the code. My reinforced concrete professor this semester preferred the chapter 21 revisions in this code over the ACI 318-08.

During these classes, I had at least one companion textbook checked out from the library to use alongside this code. This way, I could get more detailed explanations of what the code only did a synopsis of. Using a supplementary textbook with this code really helped me. Even something like the Structural Engineering Reference Manual sold on PPI2Pass and here on Amazon is a good help too.

I am aiming to become a structural engineer myself. I attempted the civil PE exam with the structural depth in October 2012, hopefully I'm retaking it in April 2013 if I don't end up moving for a structural engineering job in the next few months. I had at least two questions come up from the ACI in the structural (afternoon) portion. Even though the ACI 318-08 code was referred to in this examination, most people told me I would be fine with using the ACI 318-11 code.

If anyone viewing this review is about to take the civil PE exam, make sure to mark the index in every code that you bring to the exam. Marking the indexes in each code saved me a lot of extra exam time.

One more thing. Even though I had to buy this code to use for my reinforced concrete design classes, I would advise checking this code out from a library somewhere, see if there are interlibrary loans; this way you can look at the code before you spend the money to buy it, unless you are able to borrow it from an engineer that you know personally.

If you do not need it for your school or exam, don't buy it, ACI318-14 is changed drastically. Mostly 2011 edition is same as 318-08, and 318-05. Maybe big difference is for Appendix D compare with the older versions.

New version has updated equations on shear and torsion design. Comprehensive information has been provided for detailing of reinforcement. The permissible stress for pre-stressed concrete has been modified and new and modified requirements have been added for earthquake resistant design including revision of over-strength factor for intermediate moment frame.

Well. It's necessary. I was able to get it for a better price than through ACI. So I'm happy. I don't know if anyone LOVES how this code is organized, but it has all the info I need!

Best price we could find. Much better than buying directly from ACI or any other source. If you have to buy all new code reference books every time the code changes - you appreciate the savings.

This is just what I wanted. It contains the new anchor rod and embedded fastener requirements per the new International Code.

it's the 2011 ACI Concrete code. If you're designing anything in concrete under the 2012 building code, this book is a requirement. Very little of the information is repeated in the IBC anymore, so buying the referenced standards is basically a requirement now.
