Book Description

April 28, 2003
Acid discovers the explosion of LSD culture in the psychedelic sixties from new and controversial angles. David Black investigates the CIA's mind control trials using LSD and the people who turned LSD-tripping into a popular recreational pastime, including the entrepreneurs with links to organized crime. David Black unravels an extraordinary story of double-dealing, intrigue and betrayal as the drug's proponents became over night millionaires-and officialdom turned a blind eye.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great info on Ronald Stark, March 28, 2009

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: ACID: A New Secret History of LSD (Paperback)
I had read Acid Dreams: The Complete Social History of LSD: The CIA, the Sixties, and Beyond, which is where you should really start if you want a history of 60's counter-culture and government agency involvement ala MK-Ultra etc. Towards the end of that book however, Ronald Stark was mentioned and I really wanted to read more about him. This book has a great deal of info about Stark.

I was also interested in reading about "Operation Julie", and there is a chapter about that as well, although if you are interested in that, I suspect that Albion Dreaming: A Popular History of LSD in Britain might be the book to read. (I haven't gotten my hands on a copy yet.)

So while this book is packed with great information, is a very enjoyable (and quick, at just over 200 pages) read, I would suggest Acid Dreams to someone who wants a "history" of LSD. After that of course, you will almost certainly want to read more about Stark, and then this is the book you will need.

PS:
I was wondering how it was possible this book didn't have any reviews; not even on the amazon.co.uk site. I see that the old edition has some reviews you can find here: http://www.amazon.com/Acid-Old-Editon-David-Black/dp/188331979X
