1.0 out of 5 stars A huge disappointment, January 26, 2012

I tutor students for the ACT and SAT full time and all year long; I also take the ACT 3 times each year and score in the 99th percentile, so I know what I am talking about. I am always searching for great new resources to use with my students, so I was looking forward to receiving this "book" (more like a 31 page pamphlet). Despite its few pages, I still thought there could be a few nuggets of wisdom to gain and share with students, especially since the author is well educated and the owner of a test prep consultancy---you certainly would think that something valuable would be found in the pages given her background. However, the 31 page pamphlet is a profound disappointment in many ways. The sole other reviewer mentioned the value of a one page "ACT Prep Schedule" which does little more than spread the taking of the 4 of the 5 Practice Tests in the ACT Real Prep Guide within 28 days. The other actions you are supposed to take within those 28 days are to read pages in her pamphlet, which are so woefully inadequate in terms of math and English content preparation that I would never give this to one of my students. There are far better resources out there to prepare you for the math and English portions of the ACT. What was really troubling is that there is actually some incorrect advice. For example, on page 7 she tells you, "In general, the ACT progresses in difficulty". No it doesn't--only the math section (one of the four sections) progresses in difficulty--English, Reading, and Science do not. The advice she offers for how to take the reading section of the test, in my opinion, is poor. It is the type of advice I often hear given by English teachers who haven't actually taken the ACT in years. She advises you to "read the questions first" and "skim read the passage". That advice certainly works well on other tests, but in my opinion, it's not going to get you a 36 in reading on the ACT. I think it's really poor advice for the reading section of the ACT and pointing a student in the wrong direction in terms of technique for how to conquer the ACT reading test. The advice she gives for the reading section is appropriate for other types of tests (for example, a simple middle school reading test or an un-timed test, but the ACT is aggressively timed and requires more than a skim reading to get a perfect score.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped Both My Confidence and My Scores, July 31, 2011
This review is from: ACT Preparation in 28 Days: A Companion to the Real ACT Prep Guide (Kindle Edition)
Length:: 0:37 Mins

This supplement uses the practice tests in the Real ACT Prep Guide so you have to purchase that as well. I found the daily schedule to be really useful. It was a lot of work but it was worth it.
