I bought this base to do two things for me - it had to be able to fit under my picnic table and it had to hold the umbrella snug enough to keep it from spinning every time a light breeze came by. My picnic table has a support beam that only allows for a base that's 7 1/2" in height to fit under it to align with the umbrella pole holes. The height for this base is listed as 5 1/2" on Amazon. However, the full base height is actually 8" - the large diameter part is 5 1/2" tall, but the collar that inserts into the base to hold the umbrella pole is 8" in height. So, immediately, this base wasn't what I needed it to be, but I thought maybe I could cut the collar down by 1/2" to get it to fit. Before doing that, I decided to try inserting the umbrella just to check if the base would keep it from spinning - not even close! The umbrella spins just as freely as if it wasn't even inserted into the base. I understand that this is just a cheap base, and I wasn't expecting much, but if it can't even hold the pole tight enough to prevent the umbrella from spinning, I'm not sure what use it is. And, on top of all that, it looks quite ugly too. I should have just sent it back for a refund, but all the hassle just didn't seem to be worth it since it ships in a huge box.

I assumed this shipped ready to go, but once I noticed the low shipping weight I realized that it's actually a big water jug!
While I hadn't heard of that before, it turns out to be a great idea. Filled and plugged, good as anything else. The color of mine is a bit darker than the image, which matches my deck furniture better.

Isn't it great when you find something that actually works as it should and looks the way it did online? There's nothing complicated with this umbrella base. It's cast from resin (which makes it recyclable) and can be filled with water or sand or whatever to give it weight. Pop the cork in, pop the pole-grabbing-whatcha-call-it in and you're good to go.

Works well for its purpose. Not as attractive as some and a little bit larger than I was expecting. Also, didn't come with instructions so you have to figure it out on your own but not that hard to do. Overall, I'm pleased with this item.

The price was as great as the item. We had had one before but left it at our old house when we sold it. The product will last..

It is important to realize that this is a "cheap" base. It's made of plastic and weights next-to-nothing. I'm sure you can fill it with sand or water, but you'll need to cut a hole in the plastic---there's no cap to open (though there is a spot on the plastic mold where it looks like they were going to create a hole/cap). We're using this base for a table in an area where wind is not a problem (16 mph gust was the highest wind I recorded for August on my VantagePro2 weather station mounted on a 5 foot pole). For my application, this base is *perfect*, hence the 5 star rating. Additional weight would just make it harder to move for me. However, if your needs aren't so simple, you may need a heavier base or at least will need to fill this base with sand or water.

At first this base worked alright, for about few weeks, but then the heat must have gotten to it, it has gotten softer and stretched out, and nothing i tried would fix it. I already have another base, from Lowes, Gracious Living umbrella base, it was $9.84 or somthing like that-it is also plastic and gets filled with water and i love that one! The base itself is way better constructed-it's taller and that way the weight is distributed well. I should have bought two of those, but at the time i only had one umbrella, and when i got another umbrella they ran out of those bases in Lowes for the season. That is why i turned to the ADAMS base, figuring if the cheaper version worked great, this one should work too, but nope. I read bad and good revies, and have to agree now with the negative reviews. Since i still want to use my other umbrella, i took my daughters' sand box pail, put the umbrella in it and filled up the pail with rocks from the yard, and while it is a bit wobly, it still works better than the ADAMS umbrella base. Next season i will just go back to Lowes and get another Gracious Living base.

While the concept is a good one--to weigh down the base with water or sand--there was no hole in which to add either. There was what looked like an area where a hole should have been drilled, but this one got away. Had I been able to add water, I believe it would have done a satisfactory job and would have been a good value. Sadly, I had to return it because the unweighted base was not sufficient enough to hold up the umbrella; and I didn't want to take a chance of getting another "holeless" base.

One might think that an umbrella base would have use holding an umbrella. In this case one would be wrong. Filled with either water or sand -per instructions- the base collapses and the umbrella falls. The only use for this sorry product is under an umbrella table. That is how it should be advertised. I cannot believe Amazon allows such misleading advertisement. Very disappointing.
