Great flash drive that may hold up to the riggors of daily use,

This review is from: A-DATA S805 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive 8GS805BK (Grey) (Personal Computers)
I like to keep a flash drive on my key chain but the plastic cases all seem to break after 3-4 months use. The drives themselves still work, but not whatever contraption that it had to hold it to a key chain. With this flash drive, I feel confident it will make it longer. The drive housing is metal and feels very solid. It is also very easy to take off of a key chain which I really like. As far as data transfer goes, it seems fast enough. Not the fastest one I have ever used but works fine anyway. Installed TrueCrypt on it day one for a portion of the drive and it works like a champ. Overall a great drive that I highly recommend.Update (1/26/2010) - I originally purchased this flash drive on September 21, 2009, and when I plugged it in today...nothing. Windows won't mount it or even recognize it is there. I have tried it on 2 other PCs and still no dice. Going to contact A-Data and check on the warranty period, but at this point I have a bad taste in my mouth about this product. I didn't suffer a massive data loss because I keep everything backed up, but it is inconvenient having to get a new drive and set it back up.

Durability and style,

This review is from: A-DATA S805 4 GB USB Flash Drive 4GS805BK (Grey) (Personal Computers)
I am a RN and Working in the hospital wearing the scrub it is hard enough to stuff all the basic supplies and movil units in the pockets it is hard enough to move around. This design is durable and has a professional style... I don't get to loose information and it can be attached to the key holder to the cellphone. The design is very welcome since it is unisex, neutral color and hightly portable. The quality is great... this is my 3ed flashdrive from A-data and all of them are working well. I also use a SD card that works as flashdrive and mini-SD at the same time. I upgrade my laptop memory to 4 GB. So far they all work fine and the price is fair.

Just got this, so I can't speak to how it holds up long term, but had no problem copying a bunch of folders with my important reference documents (plus some family photos) onto it. The big difference between this one and most of the others is that it has a "serious" and tailored look. It's not very big, but the frame of the drive is a nice polished steel which gives it a solid look and a substantial, expensive feel when you hold it. Much heavier than most flash drives -- clearly not for those who need to carry around multiple flash drives for storing tons and tons of huge files. But if you're a relatively light user like me, using it only for business documents & simple presentations(versus photos, videos and songs) this is a great choice to put in your briefcase. It is attractive and "grown-up" looking, not at all rinky-dink if you need to use it during client meetings, presentations, etc. Actually it also has a bit of "camouflage" benefit too since it doesn't look much like a flash drive when closed, it would probably be taken for a novelty key ring. And the built in hook is extremely convenient for attaching to a key-ring or any other place where it won't get lost.

No jump drive is fail-safe, but this one wins in design.,

This review is from: A-DATA S805 4 GB USB Flash Drive 4GS805BK (Grey) (Personal Computers)
All jump drives have a life on them. I make it a point to never keep an original on a jump drive -- just copies of things. It's a bit more expensive than what you could pay for 4GB elsewhere but I would NEVER go anywhere else for a drive. It clips perfectly (and tightly), it swivels at two angles (so as not to stress the USB port on a computer if you have your keys hanging on it like I do) and it's a CINCH to hand it over to someone for a data transfer. It writes/reads a little slower (oh well -- I really haven't noticed). It has failed me once (no clue why, just stopped working, but ADATA was very nice about replacing it). It's a bit more expensive. BUT it's beautiful, works very well, is the ONLY drive I've ever seen that's constructed this well and I'm able to remove without 4 minutes of messing with my keys and in the end getting both it and my mail key off (oops). It's a terrific drive, enough said.

This review is from: A-DATA S805 16 GB USB Flash Drive 16GS805BK (Grey) (Personal Computers)
If I gave a review two days ago, it would be four, maybe five stars. The drive is very, very good looking and sturdy, I had it attached to my very much abused keychain for almost a year and the USB still looks like on the first day. Its performance? Not stellar, but acceptable. I got it for only 15.99CAD from online retailer which I won't mention on Amazon website. The problem? It died on me yesterday. Quietly, without announcement, simply died. It doesn't work on four different computers, 16 different USB plugs (back/front) it is not recognized at all. When I went online, I saw that this is a trend: many people are reporting that it stops functioning after a few months to one year. Not all of them, but definitely a good percent. Check online electronic reviews forums and you will se for yourself.

I purchased this item on Nov. 1, 2009, and it worked great. . . until today. None of the three PC's I plugged it in even see it. Disk Management in XP or Win7 doesn't find it either. Pretty high price for 3 months usage.

The transfer rate isn't the greatest, but for just carrying files back and forth it is more than adequate. The clip is convenient, and the size is great. The only thing I would note is that it did not work on my friends mac when I was trying to get some pictures from his laptop, so I would say don't get it unless you plan on using it with a PC. Other than that, I love the thing. It does exactly what you want it to do, make files easy to carry with you.

Bought several for work. Although over packaged, they are great sturdy little drives. They also DON'T come pre loaded with a bunch of junk which some others do. Others I have to go in an delete the junk before giving them to staff.

Annoying design,

I like this drive for what it is- a LOT of storage space in a fairly durable little package. I ordered it as it was one of the few designs that I felt comfortable hooking to my keys. My problem is that the drive itself (the part that swings out of the housing) doesn't lock into place, once opened. The drive rocks back and forth freely inside the housing. This isn't a problem once the device is plugged in, but it sure makes plugging it in tricky. I am not worried that the drive will come open- it snaps securely shut- just the wobbling when trying to plug it into a computer. Also, I found the drive on the floor once as it must have come off my keys. I really didn't expect this based on the design, but again, there isn't a lock for this feature either. Overall a good drive....just wish it was a little more me-proof.

Super slow write speeds and below average read speeds. I bought this stick in 2010 and received 2002 levels of performance. It's 16GB but I would hate to wait for it actually to fill up. Returned!P.S. It does seem like a nice key chain and cap-less case. |
