Thanks to jillsy's follow-up comments, I figured out how the punch works. Testing the punch on a piece of hard wood results in a very nice depression. I'm sure that the punch would shatter any typical vehicle window. Only downside is the punch is too thick to keep in a pen pocket and you have to be thinking to use it, which can be difficult under a stressful situation.

Comes with no instructions - my husband had to figure out how to adjust the tension so it would work when pressed against a car window to shatter the window if trapped inside. It was mentioned on the Today Show when doing a demo on how to get out of a car that is under water. We already have a Life Hammer in the car - maybe that is more practical. The window punch is more portable - one could carry it in one's purse to have handy no matter whose car they are in but how likely is anyone to do that?
