Seems great, but hold the phone...,
This review is from: GE ADER65LN 65 Pint Capacity Dehumidifier, R-410A Refrigerant, 17.5 Bucket Capacity, 3 Fan Speeds (Kitchen)
In my house, a dehumidifier is essential because the basement is an whole floor of living space - and my favorite place! As such, I've lived with many (too many) dehumidifiers in this time.
The first machine I bought was a simple thing housed in a metal body - picture 1981. It lasted 12 years! The fan and compressor cycled on and totally off together. The problem was, it was a major pain to clean the fins (no clearance, cut hands and nasty!) So after I confidently went to buy my second unit which looked almost identical to the first, I was surprised by the short lifespan of 4 years. Figuring I got a bad one that time, I grudgingly tried again. 2 years that time!! The next was of the type more familiar today, which is radically reconfigured from those early ones. Looked good, but sounded like a four cylinder engine idling that you could hear all over the house. I was getting worried about mental health - but not to worry - it died in 1 year. This time I got a warranty replacement, and it, too, died in a year (full warranty's out by then). $200+ is too much money for something to last only 2 years. Do you see a pattern here? The manufacturer shall remain anonymous, but you'll be glad to know they have completely dropped dehumidifiers from their product offerings. It's a big name, you'd be surprised. Now about the GE ADER65LN, first GE I've tried: it is comfortably quiet and effective, I don't believe the "pints removed" rating is exagerated. It runs the compressor for a time, and then cycles to "fan only" to drop the water. Once the initial dehumidification of the living space is accomplished, it works quickly to remove moisture. It has a timer you can use if you wish, to have it shut off after 2 hours or 4 hours - a great feature to 1) save electricity and 2) extend the service life. I've used the timer a lot. You can tell if humidity is under control by the digital readout. With the reading, you get an idea of how often and when to use the timer. Thoroughly recommended. For now.

so far, so good,
This review is from: GE ADER65LN 65 Pint Capacity Dehumidifier, R-410A Refrigerant, 17.5 Bucket Capacity, 3 Fan Speeds (Kitchen)
In June 2010, this replaced a top-rated 50-pint Whirlpool from 2004,
which still ran but extracted little water and exhausted air barely if any above room temperature. According to our KILL A WATT, the 60-pint GE draws less current and consumes less power than the 50-pint Whirlpool, despite having a higher nameplate rating. FWIW, with the compressor not running, the GE fan at consumes 65 Watts at high speed and 60 Watts low speed, while changing the sound with compressor running from predominantly rushing air (68 dB C-weighted at 3 ft) to compressor hum (67 dB), so selecting low fan speed is not recommended, since reduced airflow increases temperature drop across coils, making the compressor work harder, decreasing efficiency and operating life.

In our very large basement we had a Sears Kenmore that did a great job but died after seven years which is reasonable since dehumidifiers only last about 5 years. I bought the GE because it was highly rated by Consumer Reports and it lives up to its billing. Collects as much water as the Sears Kenmore but much quieter. I highly recommend the GE but if you are considering other machines, go to the library and check out the recommendations of Consumer Reports. There is a huge variance in the quality of these machines.
