Book Description

April 30, 2010
FROM THE FOREWORD BY ANDREW WEIL, MD ~ For 20 years, Dr. Sandy Newmark has specialized in successfully treating children diagnosed as having ADHD usingmethods other than psychostimulant medications. Now he has put his best advice into this book for all parents, educators and other physicians to read.He explains how to treat the whole child, not just the symptoms of ADHD, using safe and natural methods. For any child diagnosed with ADHD, even those already taking medication, this book will prove invaluable for their health, happiness, and success. I strongly recommend this book to all parents, relatives, and friends of children with ADHD, as well as the teachers, doctors, and other professionals who work with them. Before going to the pharmacy, we can use an integrative approach to help these children succeed and fulfill their true potential. Dr. Newmark tells us just how to do that. ~ Excerpted from book's foreword by the renowned Dr. Andrew Weil.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Dr. Newmark has finally crafted the book that I have long been wishing for: a wonderful self-help guide for parents looking for a thoughtful and sciencebased natural approach to treating ADHD. This integrative/holistic style reduces or eliminates the need for stimulant medications and offers sound advice about diet, sleep, nutrients, herbs and other key modalities. The book radiates a balanced wisdom that comes so rarely from practicing physicians today. --Scott Shannon, MD, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist; author of Please Don t Label My Child; editor of Handbook of Complementary and Alternative Therapies in Mental Health

If I had one book to read about ADHD, this is it. It is well-written, practical and filled with the uncommonly good common sense of an experienced and compassionate clinician with fair-minded and rigorous reviews of the state of the science. --Kathi Kemper, MD, MPH; Director, Center for Integrative Medicine; Professor of Pediatrics, Social Science Health Policy, and Family and Community Medicine, Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center

Parents are keenly interested in finding non-drug, holistic strategies that support their child s natural healing systems and that help build healthy brains. This excellent new book artfully blends the best of conventional and complementary options for kids with ADHD. Over years of clinical practice and scientific study, Dr.Newmark has developed a balanced, safe, natural approach that I will wholeheartedly recommend for all of my patients with ADHD. As a long-time educator and school counselor, my heart breaks each time a young child's diagnosis of ADHD is addressed with chemicals as the first protocol, altering the young developing brain with drugs. Dr. Sandy Newmark's carefully researched and documented new book supports alternatives to drugging our intensely, delightful youth, giving parents and educators tools to tackle real issues of focus and the under-developed executive functioning. This book is exactly the resource I have needed to combat the ever-growing demand made by well-intentioned parents, physicians, educators when they query, "Have you considered putting him/her on medication?" Rather, have you considered ADHD Without Drugs? Bringing out the best version of our children without drugs - who doesn't want that?

Tammy F. Small, M.Ed., Educator for 27 years, School Counselor and Certified Advanced Nurtured Heart Trainer working with educators, families and WONDERFULLY INTENSE children

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best NEW Option For ADHD May 10, 2010
As a parent and therapist I am constantly looking for common sense, holistically based resources. It has been impossible to find unbiased, holistic, and accurate information from the medical community-until now. Dr. Newmark provides parents with accurate information that is untainted by the pharmecutical companies. He provides real tools for navigating an ADHD diagnosis and dispells common myths and fallacies about how to treat it. His book brings hope to all parents facing this challenge in a practical and supportive way. Thank you Dr. Newmark, for changing everything about the way we view ADHD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Newmark is STOPPING THE INSANTY!!! May 9, 2010
"Dr. Sandy Newmark is a visionary, ethical and compassionate pediatrician whom is taking his expertise to STOP the INSANITY occurring with our children, adolescents and even adults! It is with great disappointment and frustration that a majority of physicians reach for their Rx pads BEFORE even considering a holistic approach. I could only wish they were in homes and classrooms when we are observing the deleterious side effects that create chaos and broken spirits along the way. I can attest to the atrocities that are associated with medication cocktails and what is perceived as guinea pig like experimentation through my leadership in our in-home program. Dr. Newmark is a great humanitarian to use his wisdom, skill and power in such a magnanimous way to make much needed change in the field of pediatrics and psychiatry. More importantly in the lives of the people we serve! Dr. Newmark is to medicine what Marty Seligman is to Positive Psychology igniting the change we need! "
