For VB Developers ONLY!,
By Jon Hall (Palm Harbor, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ADO : ActiveX Data Objects (Paperback)
Do not get this book if you program in anything other than VB (not even vbscript). The name of the book should have been ADO for Visual Basic...except that title was already taken. What really gets on my nerves is that the sample chapter released on O'Reilly's web site is the chapter where they give code examples for all of the different languages. The rest of the book is nothing like that chapter! If you are a VB programmer though, I'm sure you will love this book.

GREAT - Data Shaping Chapter,
By Maria Hemshey (Fort Worth, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ADO : ActiveX Data Objects (Paperback)
I bought this book for one chapter - data shaping, and it turned out to be the only place that I found that was able to explain it in a way that I could understand. The author has a knack for thoroughly explaining the material. I also found the appendix on SQL helpful.

You can't get a more complete ADO book.. ever gritty detail is in this book.. It's almost too much information. :- ) if you code ADO. This is a good book to have. Cheers Wayne lambright

Visual Basic ADO Book,
By A Customer
This review is from: ADO : ActiveX Data Objects (Paperback)
This is a well written book for existing programmers who want to learn ADO. While the examples are in Visual Basic, the core concepts of ADO are very detailed and anyone with an understanding of a similar language, such as ASP or C++ should have no trouble applying the examples to the other language. It will not help you if you don't already know how to program. It also serves as a good reference book.

If you need to learn ADO you MUST buy this book,
By Mark Epstein MD (Stony Brook, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ADO : ActiveX Data Objects (Paperback)
I have read many different computer books. Although most of the authors seem to know their stuff, they often lack the ability to organize their thoughts in a clear, concise manner. If you, as I did, make any attempt to learn ADO from the many books on VB out there, you will discover that none of them presents the subject in a way such that you can start writing code immediately in a way respectable to the programming community.Jason Roff's book presents the entire subject making one assumption: The reader does not know anything about ADO. The book is well organized and complete. The progression from one chapter to another is logical. It is quick reading. By the time you reach chapter 4, you will be successfully connecting to databases. The author possesses a thorough knowledge fo the subject. This book should be in all VB and DB programmers libraries!

Easiest Book To Understand,
By Demtri Ballas (New York, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ADO : ActiveX Data Objects (Paperback)
I have read lots of books on Microsoft's newest form of database communications and this one is by far the easiest to understand. It is full of very useful information and made my job a lot easier. I would recommend this book to any programers writing windows applications.

A must have book on ADO (Covers ADO 2.6),
By Ahmed (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ADO : ActiveX Data Objects (Paperback)
This is an awesome book for a programmer who wants to learn ADO. The most I like about this book is that it shows you exactly what you need to know. I have other ADO books in my collection but Mr. Roff's explanation of ADO's functionality plus his insight and suggestions on how to code with ADO make this book my number one ADO resource. This book has a complete listing of every ADO object, method, property and event. This is the kind of reference you need the most when developing a new ADO application. Aug-7th-2001

Excellent Job,
By Joseph Moralie (Boynton Beach, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ADO : ActiveX Data Objects (Paperback)
This is an excellent book for anybody looking for a complete reference title for ADO. I found that this book helped me figure out some things that I couldn't get through MSDN... and by far - the examples were much more useful. Good job to O'Reilly (once again).

Good stuff,
By John Posada (Highlands, NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: ADO : ActiveX Data Objects (Paperback)
The book contained many examples of sample code. For myself, who is not an expert in the subject, this was valuable. I also liked that it was written in a tone that while instructive for both novice and expert, didn't "talk down" to someone who isn't up to speed on all the concepts. This is important to me in that I must interface with those experts and by using this book, I was able to ask intelligent questions and avoid asking the "dumb questions". It was well organized and finding specific information was quite easy. Good work. John Posada, Senior Technical Writer

My favorite ADO book,
By Olivier Langlois "www.OlivierLanglois.net" (Montreal, Quebec Canada) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: ADO : ActiveX Data Objects (Paperback)
I have also read Programming ADO from David Sceppa and I prefer this one because it contains a lot examples with source code. My only complain is that there is only a small C++ program and the rest are all in Visual Basic. However, this is not a big issue as it is very easy to port the samples in C++.
