This review is from: ADVANCED Pack: Rainbow (104 pieces) Goobi Magnetic Construction Set. Contains 56 mixed rainbow color bars, 32 spheres and 16 tripods. (Toy)
My 9-year old son is an avid and masterful Lego/K'nex guy. As cool as these colorful do-dads looked twirling on a museum display - they fell short in two big ways for him after purchase with the ever coveted birthday cash.
First - for anything more than a sphere they aren't terribly stable- very frustrating when they continually fall apart. Second - the instructions are non-existent - basically one small illustration of each creation (no steps laid out as is customary with Lego or K'Nex). My son is good with freestyle but after you've done a couple of those ... ho, hum. Third - (mom's addition and I never thought I'd say this) I'd consider Lego or K'Nex a much better bang for the buck. For about the same price as a Lego set with at least several hundred pieces - you get 104 Goobi pieces. Number of creations is fairly limited with such a small number. Overall my son is fairly disappointed in this purchase. If you're looking for something a bit different for your young builder I'd highly recommend Electronic Snap Circuits - 300. There are many good reviews for that already on Amazon. We have loved that it's educational and it's played with again and again.

I'm using this for a video shoot to illustrate chemical bonds. It works great for this in a limited way. But as a toy, it falls apart easily and has limited "intrigue value"..you bore of it easily.
