I installed this on my 97 Honda Civic Ex. After installing now has more throttle response and sounds better. Can not beat the price and had free shipping. The only bad thing I can say about this product is the instructions that came with it. You can try to use K&N's off there website but it is a little different. If you are looking for more HP and top end speed then I would go with the CAI over this. But if just looking to add some HP and sound better then stock then I would go with this. Also you do not have to worry about hydrolock. Other then that it works great and is better then stock cold air intake. Also it did not come with a license plate cover. Not sure if they only put those in the CAI which cost more. It did come with stickers. To see pics of it on my car please visit [...] Please note that I live in CA and just had a smog check which I passed but the tech keep looking at my intake and had to check it online to see if it was legal or not. If you go and buy a cheap tube you my fail vs name brand as they have a sticker on them which the tech looks for to pass you.

I just bought this short ram a few weeks ago. And I am very glad I did. I installed it on my Civic 98 EX Vtec and you can certainly feel the difference. Not a big deal in low revs, and it is not as louder as you may think (this is better for me). But let me tell you the difference at high revs (4200 to red line). Performance is just awesome, you can feel it and hear it. Makes your engine sounds like it has a professional racing filter, I also have installed a header and the high fuel rail from AEM and when vtec opens you can feel this filter doing what it does really well.

Installation took me around 15 minutes, very very easy to install (instructions are not very clear and it is a point maybe AEM should try to improve, but not a big deal cause you can not screw up anything at least you don know anything about your engine).

I totally recommend this product.

i ordered ram aem 22-401r air ram kit and got it 48 hours later. install took 20 minutes. instant improvement on sound, throttle response, and it seems to even idle better. 2 high thumbs up! thank you

AEM makes great stuff. This is a quality short air intake!

However, it is not a perfect fit for a 99 Civic as advertised. The support bracket is off about one inch from the mounting hole adjacent to the top of the passenger side strut. I solved the problem by drilling a hole in a "L" bracket and attaching it with a matching bolt and nut. Overall, great product though.

I bought this for my 99 civic ex. First off it sounds way better than stock. Second you can feel more power at higher rpm. It also looks great.
The reason I gave it a 4 out of 5 is cause took a while to install. The instructions were hard to figure out(probably because I didn't know what the parts were called :]), and the way I had to put it in, was in a different angle cause all three of my sensors would not reach the holes and also couldn't mount it cause of that.

Good deal easy install took me about 10-15 min to install this looks good fits right in (98 civic ex 1.6 v-tec) noticeable power gain good deal, good product, fast shipping exactly what I wanted would highly recommend for some wanting an after market intake.

shipping was fast took mabe 10 min. to put it in but i was not the one to do it i had a friend at work do it he knew alot more about it than I. oncc it was in it sounded and sttill does sound great the only complaint i had was there werent good directions, had i had to do it myself it would have been pretty hard but other than that more horsepower and vtec is sick now.

The quality and build of this aem intake is so much better compared to other intake. Aem and k&n really make top quality intakes. Out of the box, I like how everything is separated and well placed. Installation of the intake took about 1hour because I took my time and made sure everything is perfectly placed and installed. Looks amazing after install, performance wise, seems to give my car more power and speed. Also gave my car this mean sounding growl when I accelerate. Also what makes this intake really.good is that it is carb legal in California so I don't need to remove when I get smog check. really Overall, I recommend this with its performance and amazing looks.

Overall it's a good addition. I really only noticed pickup after vtec kicks in (I have a 96 EX) but it's probably not a fair comparison since I used this intake to replace a very dirty filter. My only grip was one of the grommets was WAY too big to fit in the hole it's supposed to. There is a small plastic cap to plug the hole which I'm using now, but the head is venting directly into the air which is illegal here in CA.

I'll go off and buy a proper grommet but it's still poor planning that I should have to. I think part of the issue is that this pipe has extra parts so it can work with a variety of models/years of the civic. At least the civic has bolt on parts...I have to fabricate pretty much anything I need for my IH Scout from scrap.
