The book begins with the user interface classes in AFC, starting with basics (such as containers, static controls, and input controls) and graduating to more advanced user-interface elements (such as menus, tree controls, sliders, and spinners). With this material, you can build applets and applications in Java that rival the look and functionality of traditional Windows applications.
Further chapters cover the graphics classes of AFC, which bring Windows graphics to Java. This section includes information on how to display text using all the available Windows fonts (something that's not possible in ordinary Java). The book concludes with some useful material on loading and displaying images using the AFC graphics classes, including off-screen rendering. --Richard Dragan
