3.0 out of 5 stars Very intriguing.
It was filled with great information about Katharine and Spencer - seperately and together. It is unbelievable that they existed in a 26 year relationship and nobody talked about it until Katharine started talking about it herself. Amazing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spence and Kate: the secret romance, July 31, 2003

These two screen giants met on the set of Woman of the Year in 1942 and were together until Spencer died of a heart attack, shortly after wrapping up Guess Whose Coming to Dinner in 1967. This book chronicles their remarkable, romantic pairing in an era where a movie star's private life could remain hidden from a prying public. Spencer was married to a devoted Catholic, Louise, and he refused to divorce her. He also felt a tremendous sense of guilty about his deaf son. So marriage was out of the question, but Kate didn't care, she just wanted she be with Spencer, and she was, following him all over the world to sit worshipfully at his feet.

Andersen dutifully chronicles the nine classic Tracy-Hepburn films and gives some intriguing behind-the-scenes glimpses into each movie. There is also much information about Tracy's legendary bouts with the bottle, his brief fling with Gene Tierney in the early 50's and Kate's affair with Howard Hughes in the 1930's. All the bases are covered, but I wish Andersen would have interviewed more people close to the duo. Still, an engrossing read and essential for anyone enamored with either Spencer or Kate.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book for all the hopless romantics out there., September 30, 1999
By A Customer
One of the best books I have ever read. A great love story for the romantic in all of us. Chronicals the ups and downs of a relationship on the sly with a love that would last a lifetime. Very sad, yet a love we all wish we could find. I couldn't put it down.

2.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining reading but lots of inaccuracies., January 25, 1999
By A Customer
This is an entertaining book but for those who have read previous biographies of these two stars, they will notice that several pictures are labeled wrong and some of the information is inaccurate.

3.0 out of 5 stars I was disappointed., September 1, 1997
By A Customer
Though I though the author did a good job covering the
usual "biographical data" Once he cut to the meat of the "affair" I was disappointed. If you cut out all of the other affairs that are mentioned, who slept with whom, there isn't much left about Tracy and Hepbur

4.0 out of 5 stars It was actually pretty interesting, June 30, 1999

I "found" this book by accident. I thought I would get bored with it, but it turned out to be pretty good. It's amazing how times have changed. Now adays, I would think Spencer would have divorced Louise and taken "his Kath" as his wife instead of living with her "in secret" for some 25+ years. It's sad, but then there are fun parts. Katherine is a women way ahead of time, but still very much in love with her "Spensuh". The book is not bad, easy reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good read, January 3, 2008
I have been looking for years for a Spencer Tracy biography and this is about as close as I could find. I have to say I was very pleasantly surpried by this book. First off, it is a quick and easy read and is especially well written for one of these Hollywood tomes. Secondly, rather than just telling the story of the Tracy/Hepburn love affair, it gives you so much background on both stars that I feel as though I have gotten my long sought after Tracy bio. Finally, the book helps the reader to understand that there really is no understanding a love like Tracy and Hepburn shared. Neither could put it into words and neither seemed interested in doing such. Rather than a lot of psycho babble that you usually get in these types of books, the author realizes that there is no accounting for taste and there is no explaining love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sentimental look at the greatest love story of this century, April 8, 1998
By A Customer
I thought this book was a wonderfully touching and moving account of the Tracy and Hepburn pairing on screen and off. The beginning of the book included fascinating histories of both of these stars early years, from childhood through to their stardom. It seemed to be an honest portrayal of their strengths and weaknesses. Her refusal to bend to anyone, but Tracy. Spencer's losing battle with alcohol. It explains in detail how they hid their romance for 28 years, from sneaking in the back entrances of hotels to renting a small cottage on the back property of a close friend. Their romance was a true love story in every sense of the word. This book definitely gives you the warm fuzzies after reading it. I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Star-Crossed Lovers, April 5, 2000

(REAL NAME)
This novel opened up a world that I knew nothing about. The world that only Katharine & Spencer lived in, together... I've been a huge fan of the acting duo for years. Now I feel like I almost know them. Reading this book is like taking a quick peek behind the scenes. It gives details into their lives prior to their initial meeting. Then continues describing how they had to sneak around in order to keep their affair out of the papers. This novel is heartwarming & also tragic. I loved it. If you're a romantic, you'll love it, too.
