Item I received was NOT an authentic SJ4000, but one of the many Chinese clones flooding the market. Weatherproof case, menu appearance and more give it away. Photo depicts a correct and authentic SJ4000. However, the one I received has an external clear case that is noticeably larger and cheaper. I have an original SJ4000 and the difference is obvious. Beware!

Well it looks like the camera I just received (AFUNTA New Waterproof SJ4000 Helmet Sports DV 1080P Full HD H.264 12MP Car..) was one of the fakes. According to the information on the internet the overly large case is a dead giveaway. The two spare batteries I also bought (Sunco® DREAM 2 OR SJ4000 Action Video Camera Rechargeable Battery-2 pack) are too large for this camera and are apparently designed to fit the slightly larger battery compartment of the authentic sj4000. Of interest is that there was no typo on the front of the packaging and there are metallic screws on the front of the plastic housing which are supposed signs of authenticity. It looks as if the counterfeiters are getting more savvy. In any event this camera is going back and I'm going to try and find a reputable dealer for this camera elsewhere.

I read so many good reviews and so many bad reviews about this camera. My observation (this is the second day I am playing with it) so far, this is a great toy, camera, whatever you want to call it. It arrived on-time, excellent retail packaging, everything in there as specified. I plugged in the charger, about 3 hours it was done. Very easy to use, manual is not great but visit YouTube and there are a few nice videos doing a preview.
Bottom line, so far so good and I have not taken it to the pool/beach but protecting cover seems good. For the price and quality of video, it is an amazing camera. I read previews that power outlet is not for US, guess what , it is for the US.

So I ordered this camera or a race, and it was awful, actually, I don't even know because it just didn't work. I charged the battery and orange light and blue light were on but no image on the screen, so it was damaged, I order another one, but this time yay image on the screen... the trick? it has to be plug in into the usb, otherwise it didn't turn on, so it was damaged again, TDLR, I ordered two of this cameras and both were damaged, amazon customer service handle poorly this situation, because tomorrow I have a race with my brother (he is coming all the way from South America) and I wanted to record it.. now I can't.

This camera is a great gopro alternative. I've used it to film some great surf shots at The Wedge in Newport Beach. The little plastic clips are the same as the go pro ones and break just as easily. I've used the camera in some violent situations so it's understandable that some of them would break as I've broken a bunch of gopro clips before I lost that camera. The field of view is just a touch slimmer on the sides so getting shots of being in a tube are a little tougher. I've posted a bunch of vids on you tube of waves and some time laps sunsets so if you want to check it out just look up Newport Wedge sj4000 camera. The zoom is cool but worthless. The way it stores files is a little annoying as it puts most clips in a separate folder with a random number of clips in each folder. I usually use windows movie maker to turn the file into an MP4 then use the gopro studio for fine touches and render it perfect for uploading to youtube or wherever you feel like. Remember to spit on the waterproof case lens or lick it then wash it off to get spot free video when shooting in the water. I've read that the firmware update ruins the 1080p option so wouldn't recommend updating to that. This is more of a pure video camera and is not that great for taking action pictures. There's only an option to take one picture at a time or one every 5-10-15 sec ext. For pictures I just use frame grabs from the video and it works out fine for just posting online. People don't usually make posters out of their pictures so having 1 billion megapixel pics seems like overkill. The only reason to go for a gopro as opposed to this is if you want to take pictures as there isn't much difference. 4k video is still a few years out from being practical for the average user. Sorry about the lack of commas in this review, :)

First of all, I love this alternative Sports cam and don't even think about the GoPro anymore!

I've always wanted a Waterproof video camera since forever ago. Always been tempted to buy a GoPro but the price didn't justify it for me. As years went by and all the lost action events in my life I've been through that never got recorded just kept reminding me what awesome types of videos I could of had. To keep or share on YouTube.

I am very cheap and I must have the best at the lowest price. I wait for deals to hit. Sure I run a channel on YouTube at CooLoserTech http://goo.gl/6Lpeq. But that does not mean I am where I am for free. I paid my way to where I'm at. I might of got some chargers and a case for free to review but nothing crazy good (waiting for the day to come).

So when I want something and I know its a good deal as far as price, well I'm in it to win it. This SJ4000 cost me $93 at this date and right out of the box you get lots of useful needed accessories along with it. It looks like a GoPro and performs like a GoPro. The GoPro is highly over priced. Sure its the benchmark and beast of sport cams, but not everyone like me has that much to spend.

I saved hundreds of dollars not buying a GoPro... Yea I wish I had one in the past for all those missed opportunity shots, but in a sense, I'm glad I waited. I love knowing and feeling that I got a quality product for such a low price that does just what I need.

Don't expect it to be exactly like a gopro, but expect it to be clear and awesome worthy of the price with no regrets. I loved the video quality from it. the battery supposed to last upto 70 minutes. that's long enough for me. Plus I have portable chargers to charge it anytime using micro USB port.

The tiny display in the back is very convenient, i can playback or see where I'm recording. I'm happy with my purchase. With the money I saved if I was to spend $400 on a GoPro, I can buy 4 of these SJ4000 cams haha.

I'm not saying to go out and buy yourself a GoPro, as for they offer slight different support and functions perhaps, but if you are in a budget for an all purpose sports cam. This could be it. Enjoy!

I'm a little apprehensive about purchases over $50 when it comes to the long wait of China shipping, however I've done a lot of research on this cool little camera. Yes it's very similar to another camera out there, but the price is much better.

The nitty gritty: I contacted the seller I picked out, Bsyexcellent and sent them an email. This was to confirm two things, that they would respond in a timely manner to communications, and to verify that the SJ4000 they are selling is a legit one. They responded very quickly, and the camera was wrapped very nicely when it arrived. I noticed some have complained about a lack of retail box, but I promise you that shipping an item in a box like that would be risky, as the package is traveling many miles and through lots of bouncing around. I confirm that it is a legit as per the top result when you google "The difference between Original and Fake SJ4000".

I've had little time to explore all the features and I've mostly tested it as a dash cam. The video quality is very nice, even mounted upside down. However the battery life is about 45 minutes recording 1080 with no sound, so grab some extra batteries or use a power adapter. (the cam has a setting for dash cam use to automatically power on and off when you turn your key on, very handy)

If I have any issues, I'll come back to update. Until then (if ever) this is a very good value for your dollar.

Waterproof housing is garbage. SJ400 came flying of my rear bike mount from an accident, the locking latch snapped. $20.00 for a replacement housing??? no thanks..

When you rotate/flip the image on the LCD, it's still upside down.
The camera is decent, it's difficult to go thru the menu options using the case. Save your money for a go pro.

Awesome camera! rivals the GoPro at a 1/3 of the cost!! some features do not work but the 1080p Full HD Video works amazing!
And the instructions it came with are seriously lacking! But I'm extremely happy with this purchase and I'm planning on buying a second one!!

Great GoPro alternative, quality is probably similar to the GoPro 2 Line. No where near the quality of the GoPro 4 Black, nor the GoPro 3 Black. Used it on a hiking trip and got impressive results for the price.

Had to return after about a month use however, because the UP button on the side was unresponsive. But for the price, this unit is unbeatable, still gave 4 stars because I was impressed in the month I had it. Fits all GoPro accessories as well.
