As a pathology resident in surgical pathology I use this on a daily basis. CAP derives their cancer reporting protocols from these reporting guidelines. The book provides clear and concise information allowing me to gross surgical specimens and then generate a report relevant to the surgeon.

Highly detailed description of the staging of the neoplasms and especially in the matter of surgical vs non-surgical margins for the determination of the R category for residual tumor. Includes the new TNM system for neuroendocrine tumors (lung, intestine, pancreas etc), modified information about Tumor Deposits in colorectal cancer (changes the "smooth contour" consensus) and new definitions in Melanoma report (ulceration, micro-satellite deposits etc).
A truly great effort to make Pathology a true Consensus among Pathologists and less a matter of personal opinions.

This review is from: AJCC Cancer Staging Manual (Edge, Ajcc Cancer Staging Manual) (Paperback)
Indispensible reference for anyone who needs to accurately stage cancer patients. Two nice features are: 1) a box early in each chapter tells how this edition of staging differs from the prior, and 2) the included CD allows you to print the TNM staging for each disease site.

The N staging for vulvar cancer, which has changed from the 6th edition, is presented very poorly. Go page 380 yourself and read it. You'll be scratching your head. The only saving grace is that on page 383, in the staging form, the N stages for vulvar cancer are presented again, this time without the gross editing errors that ruin the main entry. But this book cost nearly $50 and it should have been proof-read better.
The editors persist in the practice of presenting T and N stages both generally and as subdivisions such as N1a and N1b. For the sake of illustration, imagine a hypothetical N staging as AJCC would present it: N1: 1 or 2 lymph node metastases. N1a: Exactly 1 lymph node metastasis N1b: Exactly 2 lymph node metastases N2: 3 or more lymph node metastases N2a: Exactly 3 lymph node metastases N2b: More than 3 lymph node metastases IMO they really need not state the general N1 and N2 cases at all. (If they must do so, I wish they would at least follow standard outline format and indent the subdivisions that follow.) If they omitted the general cases, it would reduce the clutter on the page: N1a: Exactly 1 lymph node metastasis N1b: Exactly 2 lymph node metastases N2a: Exactly 3 lymph node metastases N2b: More than 3 lymph node metastases Finally, the editors on the whole still haven't stumbled across the concept of presenting stage groups in the form of tables rather than as lists. Construct a table for yourself and you will see the elegant simplicity of it. You can actually express the whole stage grouping of a cancer with fewer characters this way, again reducing the visual clutter on the page. The most important thing, though, is that a table makes apparent the trends and relationships, primarily between T stage and N stage, that define the stage groups. It's more scientific AND more user-friendly at the same time.

I had to buy this for work. It is much larger than the sixth edition and includes many changes. I like that there are more illustrations and color used in this edition.

Why only available to US customers?,

This review is from: AJCC Cancer Staging Manual (Edge, Ajcc Cancer Staging Manual) (Kindle Edition)
Why is the Kindle edition of the ajcc cancer staging manual only available to US customers? I can purchase the print edition from a UK account, but not the electronic version. What is the justification for this blatant discrimination?
