Product Description

If you haven't used one of these yet you're really missing out! This has to be the easiest and most hassle free way to install your fire control group in an AK with the selector hole in the standard location. All you do is install the hammer and trigger with the pins then slide in the plate.... put the selector in and they are locked in place.

I have a Romanian Variant, my spring was loose and bent ever so slightly it basically allows a trigger pull with safety on... so I needed an option and I found this bugger on the forums.

WOW, love the ease of use now changing parts and being able to pull my trigger grouping out without the dang spring being ridiculous. Fits snug, holds the retainers in, perfectly cut, and I'm back to being safe. There aren't many flaws on the AK but people will argue the spring is one of the largest oops moments in design. Fix that and you wont regret it.

Fit my Zastava Yugo N-PAP perfectly. I was a little concerned about the part not fitting but it dropped right it in and after 100 rounds not a single issue.

I replaced the trigger group on my WASR with the G2. Unfortunately the stock retaining pin didn't hold the trigger pin in place very well. The pin would come loose with a few pulls of the trigger. I bought this retaining plate and it dropped right in; problem solved. The trigger group is now rock solid.

I used this in my AK-47 to replace the Shepards hook that was not keeping the trigger assembly pin in correctly. I ALSO tried the Tapco version and it did not work/fit at all. I love this one so much, I ordered a second for my AK-74 due to the superior quality and reliability.

YOU CAN MODIFY TO WORK, INSTRUCTIONS HERE.

Depending upon when your PAP was manufactured/imported, you may have a AK safety lever that is intended for the military fully automatic version. You can distinguish this safety by looking at pictures of the AK-47 safety. Basically, the fully-automatic safety has a larger “tooth” to it, which prevents you from removing the safety without first removing the trigger assembly.

Another way to test if you have a AK47 full auto safety is simple: open your dust cover, remove your spring and bolt. Now, rotate your safety upward – a full-auto safety cannot be removed. A standard semi-auto safety can be remove this way.

Note: It is critical to the installation of this piece that the safety be the last item installed in the receiver trigger/hammer/safety assembly. Again, this is not possible with a full auto safety that comes on some Yugo PAP pistols.

There are two options: Purchase a new safety, or modify your existing safety with a dremel or file. I modified mine with a $8 file, and it took about 20 minutes of scraping to get it right.

To modify your Yugo PAP full-auto safety, first remove the hammer and trigger assemblies from the receiver, then remove the safety lever. Reinstall your hammer and trigger assemblies, re-insert their pins, and install the Red Star Arms retaining plate. When you reinsert your safety lever you will notice it is impossible to push the lever back into place because it hits the top of the trigger assembly. You’ll need to shave down the parts of the safety lever where it contacts trigger assembly (note: it’s actually really obvious what parts you need to shave when you’re doing the install).

This plate works better than any of the others out there, I've got friends who have tried the other brand name ones available and 9 out of 10 times they had to be modified to make them fit and work properly. I bought this for a Zastava PAP AK-47 pistol and it was an actual "drop-in" part! If you have an AK with a stamped receiver (which the majority of us do) the hammer and trigger pins just don't have enough metal to lock into on the receiver. I've seen brand new AK's fail due to the pins "walking" out of the receiver and it's usually the trigger pin that fails. The hammer pin spring usually keeps enough pressure on its pin to keep it in place but its been known to "walk" out also. NONE and I mean NONE of the friggin paper clip retainers are worth a plugged nickel, even if they do "fit" there is a VERY SMALL CONTACT AREA ON THE PINS!!!! Even if you don't plan on doing any modifications on your AK and not stripping it down to clean it ( hell, who actually cleans their AK's???) this plate is well worth the money( What else can you buy for less than 10 bucks that may save your life??) just to keep the pins where they belong. There are CHEAPER plates AND more expensive ones available and some are from well known manufactures but I've yet to run across any that work as well as this one does. The AK is one of the highest produced weapons in history and the only thing they screwed up on is getting cheap on the pin retention by using a friggin piece of wire to hold two of the most important pieces of the weapon in place. If your AK still has the paperclip in it and hasn't failed yet it's just a matter of time and you know as well as I do that when it does fail it may be when your life or someone you know depends on the weapon to function.Read more ›
