5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic plush for large and small dogs alike.
Before purchasing the Jakks Pacific Plush Rabbit, I had purchased two similar squeaking plush toys (goose and pheasant, respectively) from Petsmart. Both of those toys lasted a few weeks, if that, and cost about five dollars more than the plushes offered here.

I knew this was the real deal when I saw it was A.K.C. approved and it hasn't disappointed me yet...

I'm going to preface by writing that I think dogs have different feelings and intentions toward different toys. Like, my dog plays more gently with some toys, and more rough with others. So, the length of time it takes a dog to destroy a toy is not necessarily indicative of the quality of the toy.

I knew this was the real deal when I saw it was A.K.C. approved and it hasn't disappointed me yet. I've got a 70lb Dalmatian/Lab mix that's played with this toy since May and I have yet to find a piece missing from it. If you're looking for a clean, durable plush for your pet, Jakks Pacific is the way to go.

I'm going to preface by writing that I think dogs have different feelings and intentions toward different toys. Like, my dog plays more gently with some toys, and more rough with others. So, the length of time it takes a dog to destroy a toy is not necessarily indicative of the quality of the toy.

I bought the large for my mid-size lab/pit adolescent. My dog clearly had an intent to destroy when she received Rabbit. She sat, I handed it to her, she politely took it from my hand, and then she dashed off to her play area to wreak destruction. All within the span of an hour, she ripped open Rabbit's neck, pulled out the squeaker, and emptied Rabbit's torso of stuffing. (see user image of black dog) That said, my dog has continued to love playing with Rabbit's carcass.

I think maybe part of the reason why my dog destroyed Rabbit so quickly is that Rabbit's squeaker is a little different than those of some of the other AKC toys and made a crinkly sound. In other toys, I just found a little white plastic squeaker. In Rabbit, however, there was a clear plastic baggie around the squeaker opening, tied to the squeaker by string, and with a little bit of stuffing in the baggie. I think this was to create a superior squeak, because while squeakers in other toys sometime struggle to draw air for the squeak (when the to is matted/smothered by saliva?), this squeaker has a protected air supply. However, the presence of the baggie in the body of Rabbit created a plasticky crinkle sound whenever my dog bit down. I think this crinkly sound led my dog to further want to destroy.

Whatever the reason (dog attitude, toy craftsmanship, etc.), Rabbit ranks at the end of my current list of AKC toys for time lasted until destruction.
Fox > Squirrel > Duck > Rabbit.
Fox actually lasted 7 months, and Squirrel has lasted about 5 months so far and has only lost a foot. Keep in mind, though, that my dog continues to enjoy playing with the carcasses.

PRO: good to play with, even after stuffing is gone
CON: only one squeaker; squeaker makes unusual crunchy sound

This rabbit is built well and hasn't come apart at all. It looks like a real rabbit and my dog loves it.

Jack, our Shepherd-Lab mix, adores his "quacking" bunny--and after three weeks, has managed to rip off only one ear. That's a new record!

I will be honest with you this large and small rabbit look very life like. I ordered one of these small rabbits for a Toy Poodle and the large one for a German Sheppard; both of these rabbits get the paws of approval from my dogs and I like them in they seem to be slightly better built then most other soft toys I have bought for the dogs.

Positives---
1. Life Like
2. Large rabbit sounds like a duck (it is comical to me)

Negatives---
1. If you have a dog that likes to chew, I would assume these rabbits wouldn't hold up for very long

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for small dogs, November 2, 2009
This review is from: AKC Rabbit Dog Toy, Small (Misc.)
My terrior/shih-tzu mix has an underbite and has a hard time biting on ropes or tennis balls. He LOVES these small AKC animals. It's just the right size for him to get his mouth around and make it squeak. He likes to throw the animal in the air, catch it and shake it, then make it squeak. I usually find these animals in his dog bed because he brings them to bed and snuggles them.

My puppy was very excited at first to have this toy. However, soon after he got the toy, he started gagging. I realized that the synthetic hair was easily coming off this toy. He started swallowing the hair! I find this toy to be dangerous.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easily destroyed by our Am Staff, but still well-loved, July 26, 2011
This review is from: AKC Rabbit Dog Toy, Large (Misc.)
I bought this rabbit at a local store and my American Staffordshire mix (think Pit Bull) had all 4 squeakers removed from the feet within about 5-10 minutes. This was soon followed by a ripping sound as one ear was removed. The quacking belly still works and one ear is still attached. The bunny is still his Go-To toy. He carries it from one floor to another and doesn't do so much chewing on it anymore, but does nuzzle it and sleeps by it. It's very cute.
It's nice because each foot has a squeaker and the body does too. Also the ears have crinkly plastic or something inside so those have sound too. For most dogs, at least some of these would still be around for some time. I will probably buy another just to replace this one when it's finally on it's last leg... or perhaps ear! LOL
UPDATE... perhaps my rabbit is slightly different from this AKC one since each foot had a squeaker too and I don't see that mentioned on other reviews.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rabbit Toy Still Intact since Xmas 2010, March 11, 2011

This review is from: AKC Rabbit Dog Toy, Large (Misc.)
Scamp, my very aggressive chewing beagle loves this toy--especially since beagles were bred to hunt rabbits! ;-) Seriously, this toy is still 100% intact, not even an ear ripped off and squeaker still works perfectly! Usually Scamp's toys face an early demise within a week or two and squeakers in days. I'm so impressed by these AKC toys--stand up to the toughest chewers around!

Torn apart by 5 mini schnauzers in 15 minutes. Squeaker out, stuffing all over the place; "bunny" was dead.
