Bass is all it has,

So after my great experience with the K518DJ model, I thought, well, AKG's in-ear headphones must be amazing as well.
Wrong. Sound quality - good. good bass. nice sound. I don't have much against the sound besides that it didn't meet my expectations (it was only slightly better than the $10 philips headphones i got to replace the k309). Similar to other reviews, it was the comfort of the k309 that was subpar. Maybe I just have small ears, but these headphones did not stay put. Not even on my hour ride on the metro. I always had to readjust it to get the best sound and to have it stay in. The constant readjusting was tolerable... ...the fact that a rubbery piece that covered the headphones fell off was not. In summary, buy at your own risk.

Great, but not for active sports!,

If you're paying full retail, I'd rate these 4 stars, but for the price they're awfully good.
The sound is surprisingly like AKG's open air headphones (K240s etc). Smooth strong midrange extending into the high frequencies smoothly (but without a whole lot of airiness), and the bass extends to very low frequencies but drops off quickly. The imaging in the mids is quite amazing, the highs feel attenuated, and the bass extends fairly low, but rolls off aggressively in a way that for some reason doesn't make you feel like you got cheated out of the bass. Basically, if you own a pair of AKG headphones, you already know what they sound like. They are not for active sports, or even too much moving around. The "open air" fit means you don't shove them into your ears, they just sort of perch in the outer canal at an angle. This makes for a very comfortable fit, but not the most secure one! And if your ears are too big or small they probably will fall out or not fit. They fit fine in mine! For sitting at the computer working/gaming they are great. For walking around you'll be readjusting them a bit. And I'm guessing that they'll be useless in the weight room (but I haven't tried yet, I might be wrong!) Executive summary: that AKG signature sound in an earbud, cheap. Very comfortable for sitting and listening. Not a good choice for active sports.

The sound quality of these headphones are good but they are too big to fit in the ears and if you do get them to stay they end up hurting your ears.

Sound is great, but fit is the issue,

The sound is great but if runing, walking, gym workout, etc. they tend to fall out. Now if you get a perfect match to the size and shape of your ear then there is no issue. Since they are not adjustable it kind of like buying shoes without trying them on first, before the purchase. The sound is excellent so I didn't return them and I don't mind having to adjust or massage the fit periodically

These headphones are very uncomfortable. Someone at H&K (AKG) just gave a big middle finger to ergonomics. You cannot hear the bass because they are seated so far away from my eardrum and have such a poor seal in the ear, that I can only hear the treble. They're rated at 18Hz at the low end - which is awesome, but I can barely hear anything below a 150 Hz due to the poor design. If I push really hard and manipulate the position of the headphones with my hands against my ear canal - they actually produce decent bass - too bad you'll never hear it.
I listen to lots of "budget" quality headphones all day long, and these are my least favorite. An absolute "no" if you are planning on doing anything active with them. The majority of the weight is designed to hang out of your ear - guaranteeing that they'll fall out. I can't decide if my ear is too big or too small. I have to jam the huge headphone into the ear "saddle", and then it is held too far away from my actual ear canal. Summary: Poor ergonomics and poor sound delivery.

Sound great sitting still,

Sound is great, but they're hard to wear around. These large, round earbuds don't fit into my ears very well. I have to perch them where they sound good, and then not move my head. If they shift around, which they do easily, the sound direction changes away from my ear canal and I get lop-sided volume. I don't have this problem with typical iPod earbuds. The depth of the K309 design, measured from the logo to the speaker grille, is quite deep, and that gives the cord a lot of leverage to wiggle the speaker in my ear.

AKG is a fantastic brand known for superior sound quality and excellence in there products. (at least until this came out). I purchased the K309's at my local guitar center for $20, I was intrigued by AKG's entry level offering for earbuds. But I have to say it was a horrible buy, the earphones had extremely weak drivers, a distorted high, mid and low. But most of all they hurt while you wore them, it hurt a lot actually. I could barely last through an average three minute song without being painfully aware that these earphones were in my ears. Please do not buy

These earplugs are like military equipment that was made during the second World War (they even look that way) where the ergonomic aspect of things was still nonexistent. They are so bad designed that they could be used as a practical joke to frustrate your friends. The only way they can serve their purpose is to ductape them on your ears. But still, it will be extremely uncomfortable to have those huge things pressed against your ears. So, even like this they wouldn't work. I'm really trying to find an excuse for AKG for this joke of a product, because I own their K77 model and its an absolutely magnificent piece of engineering, beautifully designed and crafted. But these are the exact opposite, utter rubbish. I had to throw them out of the window after 2 hour struggle to adjust them in my ears. For your mental sake buy something else.

Good sound but it not good if moving around,

As some previous reviewers stated, this earphone fits comfortably if you don't move too much, if you do, it tends to fall off and you have to readjust it. Bass aren't so good, but overall sounds better than most $10 earpieces.
