Took a gamble on these new buds and was blown away by the lovely sound. Fairly bass-heavy, but extremely faithful to ethereal highs and softer sounds that were never picked up by previous buds. Would have preferred a rounder sound, but for the price, not bad. BEWARE, however, that the cables are extremely sensitive, and every little body motion and contact produces Annoying Cable Noise. I'll be curious to see what others report about the K 340s.

I wanted a set of in-canal buds to be mostly used plugged into a laptop computer and occasionally to an mp3 player. I've tried the "cheapies" from the local discount stores (Wal-Mart, Shopko, Target, etc.) and they just didn't cut it. My music taste is very eclectic ranging from hard house to jazz guitar so accurate reproduction is important. I have no way to scientifically measure whether or not the sound reproduction is accurate, but I know how specific music should sound. These ear buds do the job very well. I like them a lot. They are very comfortable and stay in my ears for long periods of time without readjustment. The only criticism I have is that the markings on the buds for "L" or "R" are very difficult to see. I had to mark them again so I could see which was which. I've had them for two months now and they are working great. I am happy with my purchase and would buy these again.

In Bulgaria K340 are sold for about $100, and that seems like a fair price for them. At $120-125 they are a bit over-priced. I read a lot of praise for them on this site, so I would rather concentrate on the things that could be improved with K340 so that prospective customers get a better idea of the product:

1) These in-canal buds let too much outside noise in. People usually buy portable headphones to use outside the comfort of their homes, however restaurants, cafes, streets - not to mention trains and planes - are usually rather noisy environments, and some of these places also play music for their customers... K340 are almost unusable under such "normal" conditions as it is hard to differentiate between the outside music/noise and the sound you are listening too.

2) They have a rather "modern" design (uneven component surface) and you will soon find out that dirt accumulates in the small openings of the bud's body.

3) The circular form of the silicone tips applies a certain amount of unpleasant pressure on the ear-canal. Maybe it is just me, but the small and medium size tips deteriorate sound quality and the big ones shall make your ears hurt. One gets used to it after a couple of days, but it is difficult to forget you are wearing ear-buds... their presence is felt clearly. (I have read that Klipsch buds have oval tips, so in principle this problem could have been easily avoided - at least other manufacturers have.)UPDATE: I now own both AKG K340 and Klipsch Image S4, and I can confirm that Klipsch are much more comfortable to wear. There is also something esle to consider: the opening of the eartip of AKG is much bigger (probably 10 times bigger), and therefore a lot more dirt accumulates in it. As far as sound quality goes...

Lost my Klipsch S4's and needed a replacement. I was told these were the best you can buy for the money, I disagree. They sound alright, and are a definite upgrade from most included headphones. But the sound gets a little hollow at points, and muddy. Definition is lost in subtle pieces. But my main gripe with these is the materials used! the cord and volume slider look and feel like they came off a $3 bargain bin set. The buds themselves are also uncomfortable, with hard edges and direct contact with the body of the bud. The Plastics used are just cheap in every sense. These will be returned. And i'll just "splurge" the extra 20-25 bucks and be SO MUCH more satisfied.

I've bought AKG products since the 80's and love them all, but if you have a problem, don't ask them for help, they don't care. These little headphones are great with full sound in the high and very deep base. You can use them on any device that has a headphone jack and again, they sound fantastic, the best I've heard music through so far for a small set. The silicone sleeves that come with the headphones are the only ones you can use to get the full sound. When they tear, that's it, the aftermarket type don't work well at all. The sound loss is noticeable right away. No low end and no high end, just the mid-range and it's not pleasant at all. I've contacted just about everyone at AKG except for the President of the company for replacement sleeve tips and they all hand me to someone else who hands me to someone else and round and round it goes. Basically I was told to just buy another pair to get the sleeve tips. At $119.00 each pair and only after having them a month or two, that's a bit extreme. What it comes down to is that if you buy from them, it's now your problem and good luck cause they really just don't care. It's a real shame, because they do make great products. I guess they have such a customer base that to lose maybe hundreds, doesn't even phase them. There's plenty more people out there to sell to, even if it's only once.
