Product Description

AKG's industry-leading C 414 microphones are already a permanent fixture in the world's biggest recording studios and a highly respected work horse for independent artists, broadcasting, and on-stage miking as well. The C 214 is designed as a cost-effective alternative to the high-end, industry-leading C 414 family. It captures sound combining one side of the legendary C 414 dual-capsule system and AKGs patented Back-Plate Technology which results in an outstanding performance very close to the famous C 414 B-XLS. Like the C 414 models, the C 214 is capable of handling the rigors of high-pressure sound such as amplified guitars, with a sensitivity perfect for voice and orchestral instruments as well. Additionally, the microphone offers a 20 dB Attenuation pad, 13 dB noise floor, and a low cut switchall in an elegant but rugged package. Additional features include an integrated suspension, a double mesh grill high RF immunity without affecting acoustics. The circuitry in the C 214 provides maximum SPL capability with minimum noise and the gold-plated XLR-type output connector offers loss-free signals. The C 214 comes complete with a carrying case, windscreen, and spider suspension mount included.Features:AKGs Legendary 1 Edge-Terminated Large Diaphragm SoundOutstanding Dynamic Range (up to 156 dB SPL, Ultra-Low Noise)Roadworthy DesignIntegrated Suspension to reduce mechanical NoiseSwitchable 20 dB Attenuation Pad and Low Cut SwitchRugged double mesh Grill for high RF immunity but unaffected AcousticsAll-metal Die-cast body with shock- and scratch-resistant FinishSpider-type Shock Mount includedMetal Carrying Case includedDesigned, Engineered and Built in Vienna, Austria Specs:Polar pattern Cardioid Frequency range 20 to 20,000 Hz Sensitivity 20 mV/Pa (-34 dBV) Max. Nice Sounding Microphone. Interestingly I find it to have a similar frequency response to many stage-vocal condensers in that it has a distinctive curve meant to flatter its sound source--flat until 1000hz. This is not a neutral microphone but rather a microphone that accentuates. Your opinion may vary but I think it sounds nice. When the bass cut is selected, and without the -20db pad, it reminds me of a Neumann KMS 104. AKG makes nice mics and for the price it is a nice addition to a collection. I bought this microphone to use in conjunction with a Shure Beta-57 on a guitar cab for live work but also recording. The price, pad, and the frequency curve were its selling points. But it sounds good on anything with a voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Exellent for it's price range., September 13, 2011
This review is from: AKG C214 Condenser Microphone (Electronics)
I don't know what the other guy was talking about that gave a bad review. I rap and produe Hip-Hop, and everyone that has heard reordings done with this mic ask what studio was it done in. I have to tell them I have a studio at home. With the Profire 610, Logic, and this mic, that's what it amounts to. There is a need for some slight Eq, due to the fact that it records low-pass more so than hi-pass, but I do the EQ in Logic. Everyone agrees that my productions sound professsional. With an HD sound card and this mic, the sky is the limit! If you're short on cash, but want professional quality, the c214 is the way to go.
