Good Sound Quality & Comfortable, but Poorly Made,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought these headphones after comparing pairs for a month, and when they arrived, I felt INCREDIBLY satisfied with my purchase. The sound quality is undeniably great, though indeed the sound sometimes feels a bit compressed. The headphones are light and fit comfortably - I managed to wear these for 3 hours on end without soreness. All in all, the headphones were more than worth the $50. But what has turned me off from the k27i is its poor construction. After less than a month of use, the right cup of the headphones detached. Just cleanly and completely came off. There was no evidence of material fatigue or breakage, and, yes, after a couple of attempts to reattach the cup I succeeded. I also contacted AKG in an attempt to exercise the warranty, since my pair was definitely flawed. I know what you're thinking - shouldn't be anything to worry about, considering the 2-year manufacturing warranty. Well, I sent an email to AKG's U.S. branch of warranty service and they gave me this reply: "Unfortunately this is a non-warranty issue... if you'd like to send them in for a replacement we would be more then happy to replace them at a charge of $43.00 plus shipping." Naturally, my reaction was shock. The cup of the headphones detached without any help and clearly the pair were in some way internally defective, yet I am unable to obtain service. No, according to AKG, I must purchase another pair. The headphones lived up to my expectations but the company did not. I'm very disappointed in AKG's policy and feel cheated. For the short amount of time (keep in mind, this was a mere 3 weeks of daily use) I was able to enjoy my headphones, I rate them a 5. But considering the shoddy workmanship of the product and AKG's failure to stand by its warranty, I give the k27i a 2.

great headphones for the price,
By Sound HUMONGOUS bass (although a bit mushy) and very articualte highs. The mids are a bit compressed, but this is mainly due to the articulate highs. Overall, great headphones, especially for mp3's, the low-impedance on these make them EXCELLENT for mp3's (can get very loud with the 5G ipod at 1/3 volume). These also do a very good job at suppressing noise (better than some in-ears). Very good for rock, tochno or classical. The carrying case is also spiffy. Comfort ehhh, not too comfertable at first for people with glasses... A bit tight, but they get better after 2 weeks or so. The self-adjusting headband works very well and the earpads are comfy. Style Very modern looking with the white earcups and metal headband. Looks great with the ipod, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder (they look sweet to me). Overall great headphones for people wanting good sound out of their mp3's without an amp. Pretty cheap for the quality, but there's always the K26P if these are too expensive.

Great headphones for portable device!,

I shopped online for probably two months before finally settling on these headphones. I wanted nice headphones to compliment my iPod, yet at an affordable price. The AKG K 27i is the perfect solution. After looking at other models by AKG, and other brands like Sennheiser and Bose, I thought I would have to spend at least $100 in order to get quality, but then I found these and I snatched them up.The sound is excellent. When I first plugged them in, I thought they were a little quiet. But, then I discovered that there is a lanyard-style volume switch on the headphones themselves, which is fantastic. I don't have to reach into my pocket to turn the volume up or down on my iPod. The sound is very crisp and articulate, with deep, accentuating bass. And because these headphones are designed for portable mp3 players, my iPod is powerful enough to really push the drivers of the headphones. The soft ear pads offer great comfort for long listening (and sound dampening! They block out a lot of ambient noise!), but the headband takes some getting used to, as it is a little bit tight. Once you adjust to it though, you can wear them for hours. The last thing I will mention is the style. These headphones look great and the colors compliment the white iPod really well. They also fold up to an incredibly compact size, and they even come with a travel pouch. Now that is convenient. If you are looking for great headphones for your portable mp3 player, I truly say look no further. I did so much research before settling on these, that I feel like I became an expert in the audio field. The AKG K 27i offers amazing sound, great comfort, compact size, and best of all, affordability.

Top Sound Quality,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I didn't know this brand before ( I'm not particularly audiophile) but I wanted good isolating headphones, at a good price. For the price ($50) the sound quality is excellent, they are small and fit in the provided pouch; a really nice touch is the small volume control embedded in the cable. Sound is scomparable to Sennheiser and Bose sets costing twice or three times as much. The only downside is that the metal band make the headphones not very comfortable at the beginning, but you get used to it, it's not big deal. Overall I highly recommend this, sounds excellent and matches the white iPod :-)

I can't stand any kind of ear bud phone inserted into my ear and needed something for flying and working in the office that also isolated noise. it also needed to be small and foldable for travel. I've owned lots of headphones in the past and after a lot of research decided to try these out. They come in a very nice box that is almost Apple-like in presentation. The headphones themselves are well made, nice looking, and seem sturdy for their small size. Sound is excellent! Better than Bose or Sennheiser at about 1/3rd of the price. Highly recommended.

Great Headphones.,
By After doing some research, I ordered the AKGs, and was pleasantly surprised to find that they sound like my friend's Bose headphones for the fraction of the price. I'm not much of an audiophile, but I think they sound great. The majority of time that I spend listening to music is when I'm walking to class, or on road trips with my team, so the size is perfect - not bulky, but not flimsy, either. The design seems to be fairly sturdy, and they fit comfortably on my ears. I really appreciate the folding design; I feel like they're less prone to being damaged when folded up. The in-line volume control is great, too. Great headphones for a great price!

I can't even begin to fathom in my head how awesome these headphones are! When I got them, I was pretty weary, I kept reading reviews about the warranty being bad and how "heavy users" were having problems breaking them. I've had mine for at least three months and I'm super happy with them. I've been careful not to tug on them too much, or pull them out of my pocket. They've been great so far. The ONLY problem I have is that fact that the volume gauge is too easy to slide out of place. When I'm on my bike, I put the cord through my clothing and the volume gauge goes crazy; sliding up and down my chest. Even when it's not in my shirt, if I were to brush up against it with my arm, the volume would increase....so yeah, buy these headphones!

I compared a number of products before finally settling on these for their in-line volume control. When I got them, I was surprised, but not put off by their small size. I plugged them into my dell and proceeded to try them out. They sounded great and I was satisfied with my purchase. After about 15 minutes of listening pleasure my brother wanted to use the computer, so I moved to the family macbook. I noticed that the base and lyrics were unusually quiet. I fiddled with the jack and the sound popped into focus, crisp and clear as before. Then it went away again. I tried my headphones in my iPod two different times and in the dell again before I determined that it was a problem with the phones, not my electronics. The other reviews for these headphones are pretty positive so mine may have just been a fluke, but be warned.

Great sound, poor wiring. Two pair down,
This review is from: Akg K27i Closed-Back Headphones (Personal Computers)
I've had two pair of AKG K-27i. I handle them carefully and use them while riding a city bus. Pair #1 left channel went out after 8 months. Pair #2 right channel cuts out after 10 months. The ear cups are sealed so the loose wiring can't be fixed. Throw-aways. The excellent sound quality, portability and comfort don't make much difference when they don't work. Poor construction.
