Very lush mids and highs and great for vocals.

In terms of sound quality, it actually has some improvement compared to the K701, K702 and Q701.
Music Lover
You want an excellent headset for playing video games, listen to music or watch movies.

I wrote an extensive and glowing review of the AKG-Q701 on Amazon. I really love this headset. Now the AKG K702 65th Anniversary Edition came out a few months ago and got high praises from many Hi-Fi forums. It aroused my curiosity, especially when it was said that these new headphones were better than my all-time favorites, the AKG-Q701.
So, with Amazon nice return options, I took the plunge and ordered the AKG K702 65th Anniversary Edition, afraid that the option to buy it may disappear. There were rumors that only 3000 had been produced... I do not know if it is true but visibly there are still some offered on Amazon at the moment of this review.
These are about 50% more expensive than the Q701 so they'd better be clearly better than the Q701 to be worth their price.
On the day when I received them, I went ahead and tried them immediately and without any prior break-in, burn-in they did the trick.
How can I describe the thing without going into a detailed comparison as I normally do? (There is no point since I know they will outperform the Q701 in every field).
They sound louder, have more bass, have an overall better sound and are also more comfortable.
I immediately compared both with Frank Sinatra :"How insensitive" and Vivaldi the four seasons and I cried with the emotion that the Anniversary edition was conveying.
My answer was clear: There is no way I am returning these to Amazon!
It has now been about two months ago and I have been using them every day for a few hours at a time for everything, ranging from music listening, movies and Video games. At some point I went back to the Q701 by curiosity and really noticed the difference in comfort.

The K702/65 is a warm, well rounded, balanced, and musical headphone. If you've ever heard the K701, K702, Q701 and wanted more bass, more musicality, and more comfort (no bad headband bumps), this is the one for you. The memory foam pads are what's truly altering the sound signature, and adds some warmth and bass, and makes the sound signature a bit more intimate and less analytical.

It's a fantastic headphone with basically no drawbacks or real negatives to it's sound signature.

This headphones are reference studio headphones. I hear the sound just like it was meant to sound, with nothing really imparted by the headphone. I had Q701's before this. The bass was lacking too much and hurt my head with the pads on top. This does away with the pads (sooooo much more comfortable for hours on end), and improves on the bass to where it's perfect. Again, use these with the proper amp/soundcard/receiver and sound source, and you'll be rewarded. I know it only says 62ohm, but it can use much more power. Give it more, and it will reward you. I had some Psyko Carbon 5.1's before this. These blow those outta the water. HUGE step up from where I started with Trittons. Great for gaming too. Just check Mad Lust Envy's review on Head-Fi. It's a large ticket purchase, so do your homework. Totally worth it.

I finally moved away from "gaming headsets" and went with this pair after reading mad lust envy's review on head-fi.. and I can tell you this headset is amazing. I went ahead and paired this up with an asus essence stx and with some tweaks of the settings..you will hear some amazing sound. Id encourage anyone interested in this to do your research, i used head-fi to do mine and i definitely feel like im getting the most out of these. for gaming, the positional accuracy is incredible. with dolby headphone on i was playing rising storm on the map Guadalcanal and was literally hearing gun shots in the dark all around me and could turn and point my gun in that exact location. the build quality is great and these are very comfy. ive been wearing them for extended hours with no annoyance. some headphone tend to clamp onto your head, but these rest on your head and around the ears. overall, i feel like im listening to my music collection for the first time. a must buy.

This has been my first major audio purchase. I hunted a long time to find the perfect headphones for me, and I learned a lot (and made a lot of mistakes) on the way. So, if you're relatively new to this, please take the time to read this review before you buy these on impulse.

First of all, before I even start on the actual headphones, let me say this. These are COMPUTER HEADPHONES. They will NOT work well with mobile music players (even if you think you have a good one). These headphones need way more power than something with a battery smaller than your thumb can provide. And in addition to that, the quality of mp3's you're getting off iTunes WILL bottleneck. (I know it's not the proper term, but you get my point. If you want headphones to listen to iTunes music, get something about half this price and you won't hear a substantial difference.)

That being said... IF YOU BUY THESE HEADPHONES, YOU WILL ALSO NEED:

- A quality amp capable of powering headphones with a very low sensitivity. Tube amps work best, but if you don't want to spend quite as much, the FiiO E09K works well. You also will need to match this headphone's impedance with that of your amp.

- A good, shielded sound card. I made the mistake of thinking shielding didn't matter very much. But, if you run bad audio through an amp, every buzz and crackle will be magnified. To give you an idea of how important shielding is: before I bought shielded equipment, I was getting interference from my keyboard backlight.
NOTE: You can also solve this problem by running digital audio (Optical/SPDIF) to an external DAC (Digital to analog converter), such as the FiiO E17.
