5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound, great comfort, but could benefit from a headphone amp.
Sound Quality:
The clarity on the K99s are great. They produce an accurate tonal sound-scape that you can really bring out those "hidden" elements that you have missed before. 2.0 out of 5 stars Amazing fit, but the sound is less than desirable
Well let me start off with the good.

FIT
AMAZING! You never even knew they were there. The self-adjusting strap is genius. Now , yes, if you start violently shaking your head or you are a head banger then you may have a problem with them staying on.

BUILD QUALITY
I thought they seemed very solid for the forty odd dollars I paid to get...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sound, great comfort, but could benefit from a headphone amp., July 12, 2010

Sound Quality:
The clarity on the K99s are great. They produce an accurate tonal sound-scape that you can really bring out those "hidden" elements that you have missed before. For the price, the sound quality is exceptional. They don't sweeten the sound at all (artificially raising bass/mids/treble), so you are free to EQ your sound however you wish irrespective of the headphones.

Comfort:
I wear glasses, and one of the biggest concerns I had was the comfort of the headphones while wearing glasses. Many fellow four-eyes out there are familiar with the experience of having your frames pressed against your skull; the headphones griping your ears in a way in such a way that would make Darth Vader's choke seem tame.

Well, let me say that these headphones are deceptively comfortable and light for their bulk. No longer does the top of my head ache from a cheap plastic/metal band. The suspended pad does a wonderful job of protecting your soft noggin-tissue. The ear pads cup over the ears and rest gently, and the headphones suspend from the top, rather than pressing from the sides. This translates into less ear fatigue in longer listening durations.

Drawbacks:
Now I will mention the one drawback that these headphones have. They are somewhat quiet in contrast to all the other headphones I have used. Pushing up the volume too much causes the sound to distort in ways that other headphones have not, or at least that I have not noticed. This seems to only occur on my computer, as my home stereo is not affected by this. I have read that a headphone amp can correct this and provides a boost in volume without corrupting the audio. In a way, limiting the sound in this fashion may be a blessing in disguise to keep from cranking the volume to unsafe levels.

Summary:
I am very pleased with these headphones. I have used these for a while now, and seem to be holding up well. They have a single cord, so they don't turn into cord spaghetti, which is a nice touch. The cord is very long compared to typical commercial headphones, which I think is great, but may agitate others with the excess slack. The sound is excellent for the price, and if you are a moderate volume listener, the lower audio levels could be a moot point; otherwise, a headphone amp should make these a perfect combination for quality-to-price conscious individuals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Monitoring headphones, June 4, 2011

I got these headphones for music production monitoring. I know that I should be using actual monitors but i didn't have the money at the time so i figured these are better then my laptop speakers. They sound great, you can really hear all of the different sounds clearly. They are built well and are light weight. Very comfortable for long periods of time. They could use a headphones amplifier to get better sounding low end but dont let that stop you from getting them. The semi-open back makes it sound alot more natural. Overall really great headphones for the money.

I bought these headphones to replace an old set of low-end SONY's I'd had for years. I'm not bashing SONY, just those headphones. They had no bass to them and in order to hear bass in my iTunes music and youtube videos, I had to crank the volume which didn't do my ears a lot of good. These are the polar opposite. They sound excellent and fit very comfortably over your ears. They will eventually make your ears sore, but that will take 2.5 to 3 hours. These have a lot in common with the K77s. A relative of mine who works in a recording studio recommended these to me over some Sennheisers I had been considering. I'm glad I chose these. The only downsides to these are that they look a bit funny since the plastic "frame" sits high over your head, and they are a bit chunky so I'd avoid traveling with them. Excellent phones, though. I'm very pleased with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the price, December 6, 2011

This review is from: AKG K99 Headphones (Electronics)
There are always better pairs of headphones available. Gotta consider price. For fitty, I'm very satisfied with these headphones in the first month of use.

Sound quality: Not as good as my studio monitors but pretty darn good. Clarity is above average. These headphones DO experience change through burn-in. After 30 hours, bass has become much better (still not strong/overbearing), highs lose the initial piercing character. Everything's a good balance now. Mids are pretty good, not amazing. Detail comes through. Muuuuuch better than my previous Sennheiser EH150. The semi-open design is awesome for my application (in my quiet home). The soundstage is significantly better than a closed equivalent (AKG K77) but these don't leak TOO much.

Build quality: They look awesome. Very light, lots of plastic but still sturdy. Since I handle my gear gently, I expect these can last 10yrs.

Comfort: I don't sweat a lot so I never imagined headphones would make my ears sweat. These do. Can't change that...I just take them off every 20-30 min or so. I figure it's a good way to force breaks for my ears.. so I don't mind. Elastic band works well. Perfect grip strength for my smaller than average head.

If you're looking in the $50 price range, I recommend these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb sound and price, February 25, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AKG K99 Headphones (Electronics)
For the past 6 years I've been conscious of sound quality I've always avoided cans, sticking to the flexible in-ears for home/on-the-go use, but they all broke down soon and past worthy repair, and after my Etymotic er-6i's(great cheap in-ear btw) finally wore out I decided to buy these and JVC HA-RX700s to test out and I have to say I prefer these AKGs.
They're both cheap good headphones but the AKGs fit a lot better and I haven't had a chance to burn in either for long but I've been leaning with these all the way.
Definitely a solid buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good sound for the money, February 8, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AKG K99 Headphones (Electronics)
Sound is pretty good, definitely worth the cost. Relatively neutral and fairly clear mids and highs. I have better headphones but they cost three times as much (and that's on sale, like these). They actually look and feel fairly cheap, in spite of the quality sound. The pads aren't super comfortable but aren't distinctly uncomfortable either, although the plastic headstrap gets a bit irritating after a while (of course, I'm bald, so if you have hair, that might prevent the irritation).

These are very light (which is good, since it's probably what keeps the meh pads and cheap strap from being problematic) and the semi-open nature means a bit more open sound, of course, but also airflow to keep them from getting hot, a problem I experience with most circumaural headphones, including some other semiopen ones. End result, I wear these 8 hours a day at work and never feel the need to take them off, which I can't say about any other pair I've ever owned.

Cord is insanely long. It's soft and flexible so it's easy to bundle up and stick in your pocket, if you want to, but it can get in the way.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very light. don't even feel them on your head hardly at all., December 30, 2011

These completely wrap around my ears. Padding is OK but I've seen better. Very light, but they seem sturdy even though almost impossibly light.

Bass is not crazy loud which is good I think. If you are using this to play games or watch Movies, excessive base would wear down your ears after a while. These thankfully are very balanced and don't have the feel of excessive base.

Long audio cable. I like the product overall. Only gave 4 stars because sound quality did not blow my mind, but still very good and comfortable.

If your a bass head, these probably aren't for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Headphones, November 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AKG K99 Headphones (Electronics)
I've never owned a pair of headphones that didn't cost more than $20 in my entire life, as such i've had to deal with the consequences of owning cheap headphones. Regarding these here's what i think:

Sound: I read some of the previous reviews and i was extremely concerned, my initial thought was i might be buying something that will end up giving me the quality of those $20 headphones. But after trying them on with my ipod i was completely blown away, i had never hear such amazing clarity in my entire life. The same went when i tried it with my HDTV and a bluray film as well as some of my flac tracks i have on my PC.

Hardware: In terms of comfort they're great as the buds wrap around the entirety of your ears, giving the wearer the full benifit of the sound quality. It has a long cord around 6ft - 8ft which i love because I mainly use these in bed at night to watch tv. They are bulky more so than the average full size headphones, but as someone else mentioned in their review they are very light, surprisingly so.

Pros and Cons: Always be aware of the "you get what you pay for" saying, DO NOT expect these to be the greatest pair of headphones of all time. If your a perfectionist that wants sound quality that only the gods could create, then i strongly suggest you try something else. But if your just average person looking for a great pair of headphones for a decent price these are the perfect choice.

Summary: From i've read into AKG headphones they are extremely durable and last a long time, i've only had them for a few hours and i already love them and if you get them i'm sure you will too.

4.0 out of 5 stars AKG 99 Headphones, November 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AKG K99 Headphones (Electronics)
Excellent headphones, with superb sound quality.

Pros: Clear, crisp, and full sound quality. AKG definitely knows sound very well. The headphones are also extremely light and comfortable.

Cons: The K99's feel cheap to the touch, although they are far from that. This is due to their light-weight plastic structure. They are also open over-ear phones, which means they don't seal off outside sounds fully. I was personally expecting more sound isolation. Also, the cord is obnoxiously long. That proved to be slightly inconvenient.

Although I adore my AKG 99's, I would not of brought them at full price. Thus, I would not recommend purchasing them in the absence of a 20%+ discount. However, I was pleased with the product and would rate it superior in its class of mid-range, light stereo headphones.

4.0 out of 5 stars I am enjoying music and movies more with these cans, September 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AKG K99 Headphones (Electronics)
I am not an audiophile so this review is not technical. All I can say is I am enjoying music and movies more now with these cans (picked up the slang while doing research for these). With these I am picking up the words more clearly and of course the songs I have been listening have different meaning to them(slightly exaggerating here. You definitely need to adjust the equalizer to get the sound you want since that does make a lot of difference.

The contruction is solid and I don't feel them too much while wearing them. The only issue is that I do feel them around my ear since they do warm up the area around my ear. Hopefully with extensive use I will get used to the pressure or the tension will loosen up a bit.
