Product Description

ALASKA - Fishing The UNTAMED is a wilderness fishing adventure digital book written by Alaskan author Doug Myers, adventurer, and sport fisherman. A former lodge owner in remote southwest Alaska, the author writes of his fishing/wildlife adventures on wild rivers of the Bristol Bay Region, Kodiak Island, Alaska Peninsula, and less distant Kenai Peninsula. Each chapter is enhanced with color photos taken at the time of the narrative accounts.

It is a book for the sport fisherman, outdoor enthusiast, culturally curious, and all who embrace the suspense in Alaska's wild and reverence for the pristine. Special attention is given to Kenai River sockeye (red) salmon and Arctic grayling.

To read ALASKA - Fishing The UNTAMED is to take a virtual trip to America's 'last frontier', a timeless treasure experienced by a fortunate few. For sport fishermen it provides the vicarious realization of an often elusive dream. Episodes of catching Pacific/Alaska salmon are included in several chapters - king (chinook), red (sockeye), chum (dog), pink (humpy), or silver (coho) salmon. A saga account of the salmon's migratory pattern and metamorphic change leading to instinct's spawning ritual is also included. Rainbow trout, Dolly Varden char, Arctic grayling, northern pike, herring, and halibut are additional fishing features presented separately throughout the book.

The writing includes visits with Native friends at their subsistence fish camp site on a designated 'wild and scenic' river within the Bristol Bay Region of Southwest Alaska. From ancient privilege to the running of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, from wildlife observations to sport fishing highlights, the book emphasizes Alaska's greatest resource - the spirit of adventure. Each chapter is photo illustrated, and a reference link is available for viewing additional photos included in the related hard copy.

You will learn about sport fishing experiences that will more than wet your appetite for your own adventure, whether in Alaska or out your own back door.

The book's contents includes: Angler Discovery, Katmai Wilderness Drama, Promised Rainbow Reward, A Gathering Place, Appointment With Kings, Migration Spectacle - Fowl And Fin, Prospecting Silver, Treasured Island Jewel, Wilderness Extravaganza, Arctic Splendor, Dashing For Distance, Study Of Contrasts, and A Final Cast.

More About the Author

Alaskan resident Doug Myers was born in California, raised in Oregon, and in Washington State served professionally as a licensed counseling therapist with the court system and in private practice. Later, Myers became owner of a rustic fish camp/lodge on a State designated "wild and scenic" river in remote Southwest Alaska. Subsequent adventures were shared with Alaskan Native friends at their historic village subsistence site in the Bristol Bay Region. These visits and others in distant areas boardering the Bering Sea, Alaska Peninsula, and Kodiak Island offered cultural insights, fascinating sport-fishing experiences, and close encounters with some of Alaska's renowned brown bears. These rare adventure opportunities are documented with other discoveries from the more accessible Kenai Peninsula of Southcentral Alaska. Myers' books are written with a "passionate pen" and enhanced with numerous photo illustrations.

As an Alaskan author Myers' goal is to share Alaska's intrigue, including its scenic treasure, Native culture, and wildlife adventure. His counseling and communications background encouraged a sensitive narrative style of meaningful wilderness journeys leading to soulful discoveries. Myers' passions also include photography and illustrative art, which are incorporated in his writings and publications.
