Precut quilt squares make it easy- just knot the fringe together.
Just Knot!
ALEX® craft kits emphasize simple and fun activities for kids. The Knot-A-Quilt requires no cutting, sewing or knitting. All your child needs to know is how to tie a simple knot. The quilt kit includes bright and colorful pre-cut fringed fleece squares in pink, orange, yellow, green, turquoise and purple. Kids will have fun laying out their patterns and passing the time connecting all the squares into a snuggly keepsake quilt. Because the finished product is so beautiful and functional, they will feel especially proud of their creation.

Time to Craft!
The ALEX® Knot-A-Quilt makes a super great gift. It's the perfect kit to bring along to a slumber party for a night of crafting. Friends can help lay out the pieces and plan the pattern before connecting the squares edge to edge. This kit also makes a great rainy day activity. Kids won’t get bored knotting the fringes together, improving their manual dexterity as their knotting skills become second nature and their quilt takes shape.

Super Soft, Super Fun!
Each brightly colored square measures nine inches by nine inches. All are pre-cut, so there is no preparation work involved. The printed instructions are simple to follow, but if your child needs a little extra help or direction assembling the quilt, step-by-step video instructions are available for viewing online at www.alextoys.com. The final quilt can be used as a bedspread or a cozy blanket, and is the perfect gift for the beginning quilter.

What's In The Box?

The ties are way too short to tie proper knots.

An excellent craft project that didn't require a lot of adult help.

My 7 year old daughter spent several hours knotting the pieces of this quilt together on a 9 hour road trip. Everytime she put it down she would pick it back up and say, "one more." She didn't exactly make a quilt, she knottted a "purse" and a "hood" (mistakes turned useful) but she enjoyed it very much. If she'd had an adult's guidance making a quilt wouldn't have been a problem. This was a fantastic change from the constant DVD viewing that typically takes place on such long trips. I definitely recomend this craft.

My teenage neices LOVED it, even tho it seemed a toy for a much younger audience. It was quite beautiful and I considered ordering some for myself. I did have to order two for it to be big enough.

My kids and I worked on this project together. My ten-year-old enjoyed it and was very proud of the results. However, my eight-year-old got very frustrated and gave up. I decided to help and discovered why it was so frustrating for the younger child. The strips of fabric that you are supposed to tie together are just BARELY long enough to make a double knot. We had to work on the quilt in short periods of time because of the high frustration factor (even for me.) Just be aware that he picture on the box, with the perfectly flat quilt and perfectly tied knots is an impossible standard--the quilt we made was puckered and uneven, and that was with an adult helping. (It's still a cute quilt, and as long as my kid is happy, who cares?) Also, you have to be careful because if you pull the knots tight, you can actually tear the thin fleece. Since my older child enjoyed it, I'm going to get some more durable fabric and make a similar kit myself--I'll cut the strips longer so the knots will be much easier to tie. Overall, a good project for just the right child, probably an older child with a long attention span and good dexterity.

I ordered two of these kits as a gift for my niece with the idea that she could combine them and make a nice lap quilt. When they arrived, I was very disappointed to see the fabric was thin - more like something you would make pajamas out of. I was expecting the kit to be made of fleece to make a warm and cuddly blanket. Instead, it was more like knit flannel. I returned the kits and will keep looking.

I bought the Knot a Quilt for my 6 and 8 year old for a long car drive hoping to give them something to do. They loved the idea of making their own blanket, but had a hard time doing it for a long period of time without any help. My eight year old had a little trouble with it, and my six year old needed help with keeping the knots in order, it was frustrating for her.Overall, they liked it but I would recommend it for 9+ age group.

I am disappointed with the low quality, poorly cut material. I bought two kits for my daughters. Both kits had many squares with mangled fabric--fringed edges cut incorrectly, some fringed edges cut at an angle or partially cut off, some unraveled or partially unraveled. The material is thin and many of the fringed pieces unraveled when we pulled on them to tie the knots.

Also, the fringe is so short that it is hard for my 8 year olds to tie in a double knot.

The girls made the best of it and worked around the mangled pieces, but if I had known what a low quality, poorly made product this is I would have bought fleece and cut it myself.

My daughters would like me to add, "This is a rip-off."

We gave this kit to our 9-year-old daughter for Christmas this year and she has been so busy with it ever since. She is very proud of how well her blanket is turning out and is almost finished. Its simple to make, but not so simple that an older girl or boy would not be proud of the finished product. Fabric is wonderfully soft, colorful and easy to tie. Our daughter will have a high quality finished product and keepsake she'll cherish forever.
