I have a few friends of Middle Eastern descent, and I have bought three books to help me understand their conversations. Unfortunately, though this book truly looks wonderful for a beginner learning the alphabet and phonetics of the Arabic language, you will definitely NEED the tape in order to utilize the book. Without the Tape, you can only practice letters/handwriting which is almost useless if you have no idea how the letter or words sound.
