JUMP STARTER IT IS NOT March 28, 2007
Well, I bought this unit for the "jump start" capability because I have a battery that will randomly drop charge after about 5 days and will not start my car.

Today I had the opportunity to try out this capability. I checked the battery voltage before attempting to "Jump Start" and it was down to 10.85 Volts and would not even click the starter relay. Connected the Start Pac and noticed the car interior lights go way brighter and I was elated to see this. Put key into switch and turned it to start and NADA - it did not work. Thankfully, I was parked in my garage and could get the ole battery charger out and working.

My thoughts are that this unit may be great for powering "accessories" but not too good at "Jump Starting" a car engine. I would not recommend this if "starting your car in an emergency" is your goal..

I gave it 2 starts because it "may" work to power accessories but in my case it did not do what I expected and I would not buy this unit again

Great peace of mind July 11, 2007
I carry this in my mini-van. It fits perfectly in a little alcove by the tire jack compartment. I store it upright although it can be stored and used in any position.
I have used it on many occassions for jump starting a variety of vehicles from vans to boats to ATVs with batteries ranging from weak to very, very dead. It worked flawlessly every time. On one occassion I went on a remote 2 day hike only to return in the rain to a dead battery because the interior lights were left on. Pulled out the jump starter, hooked it up, turned the key and the car started right up. During one trip with a finicky alternator, I used it for 5 jumps without recharging. Worked every time. Very powerful. It is easy to recharge by either plugging a cigarette adapter into the front while driving or plugging a standard extension cord into the back when at home.
It is also very simple to use. Just connect the cables. My wife carries one in her car and has used it on a couple occassions. Peace of mind for both us knowing she does not have to beg some stranger for a jump or spend hours stranded some where.

PROS:
It works every time!
Simple to use.
It holds a charge a long time.
It can do multiple successive jumps without a recharge.

CONS: (all minor)
The emergency light is a little weak but gives enough to work with.
The AC plugs work great for powering lights or radios but power tools like corded drills keep tripping the built in breaker.
At 29" the cables are useable but a little short. If I buy another one it may be the marine version that has 4' cables.

OVERALL:
It's always in my car and the first thing I pack when going on a trip in someone else's car. Don't leave home without it. Really.

STILL UNDER PERFORMANCE REVIEW December 30, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
CONS: Does not come with Charter. For AC Charging, i was told to use any household extension cord to charge. For charging using a cigerette lighter adapter in a car, The plug needs to be purchased seperately.
Does not generate a pure sine wave.
