Product Description

There's a reason ALPS Mountaineering calls this thing the Denali Backpackit's pretty frickin' huge. If you pack it correctly, you could take this pack into Denali National Park with your sleeping bag in the zippered bottom compartment, and your tent, layers, and bear canister in the top-loading main section. Stash a reservoir in the hydration pouch and a rain jacket in one of the two front pocketsbecause in AK, it's probably going to rain. But no worriesALPS Mountaineering integrated a rain fly to keep year gear dry. Two-layer foam on the shoulder harness and a plush Hip Hugger waist belt help you carry a heavy load comfortably. The Denali adjusts quickly and easily to fit torsos between 17-23 inches.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good pack for the price, July 30, 2009

Overall the ALPS Mountaineering Denali (5500 Cubic Inch) is a great pack for the money. I went on a four-day hiking trip on the AT with my friend who was carrying a Gregory pack; he was jealous of my pack because of the extra features and the money I saved.

-Pros
. PLENTY of space
. Supportive waist belt (note 'Cons')
. Pouch on waist belt is a fantastic feature (camera, cell phone and map can all fit)
. Auto-adjust load lifters feature is a LIFE SAVER
. plenty of 'connectors' to connects items to the outside of the pack (tent, sleeping bag, pots, ect)
. water pouches on both sides of pack are big enough for two plastic water bottles apiece
. can be adjusted in many ways to fit your body
. RAIN COVER - It poured on my trip. I heard the rain coming and quickly put the cover over the pack. It is large enough to fit entirely over the front of the pack with a sleeping pad and tent attached to the front of the pack

-Cons
. not enough padding on the waist belt or shoulder straps
. two front pouch zippers and bottom pouch zipper are difficult to zip
. rain cover does not cover the back of the pack

1.0 out of 5 stars I usually love ALPS Mountaineering products, but this product is not one I would recommend., December 13, 2010
First off, this pack is HUGE and I like the layout a lot. It was surprisingly lightweight for a 90L pack, but I soon discovered why:

It can't support the weight that a 90L pack needs to support. After loading it up with a modest amount of weight (45 lbs), one of the stays immediately bent. I also noticed that some of the seams seemed to be stressed to the point that I was concerned about long-term durability.

Every other ALPS Mountaineering product I have used has been amazing, especially considering the price but this pack is the exception.

I do not recommend this pack at all.

Well made pack that holds more than enough equipment for my 4 day jaunts. Well balanced and ready for the rain with the attached rain cover. Geat product from an excellent mountaineering company.
