I was concered about which of the many Cardboards options available on the internet to buy. After LOTS of research I ended up choosing this options, the main worry should be the LENSES this is the most crucial part of the whole sets and I AM CARDBOARD packs the best ones you can get, I mailed them and they quickly answer me giving me a detailed explanation about the kind of lenses they use, how many different leneses they have tried and why they think this ones are the best. The cardboard it self its very good quality, machine cut perfectly and feels very sturdy and strong. My only complain would be the instructions, its actually very easy to assemble but the instructions are just some simple and not so clear diagrams drawn on the cardboard itself, I was worried about "cutting" some part (you have to do it, but I was worried to cut the wrong place or something) Anyways In the end the experience was great. Just a shame my Note 3 doesn't fit correcly, cant close the cover and part of the phone comes out from sides and top, still can watch the effect correctly but holding the phone on a weird position. Maybe a kinda bigger version for the very popular Note 3, OnePlus One, etc? (5.5"+ phones).

I have to say I was a little skeptical when I first heard of "Google Cardboard", but now I love it.

Here's why....

What is it?
--------------
You may have heard on the news about the "Oculus" project which for a couple of hundred pounds aims to bring Virtual Reality to masses, well this does a fairly good job for a lot less. It's effectively a virtual reality headset kit built out (mainly) of, yes, you guessed it, cardboard.

The kit itself is is made primarily of cardboard, but includes two lenses you look through into an App on your Android phone to turn your smartphone into a Virtual Reality headset. It helpfully comes with a sketch picture of what you're building, and I had it built within a few minutes. There is also lots of help on the web if you get stuck.

Once assembled you download the "Google Cardboard" App, and drop in your Android smartphone into the headset and fix it in place with velcro, and off you go. This one does not come with a built in NFC tag that triggers the App to start - but that’s no big deal.

What's it like?
------------------
In a word - weird. I found myself getting really lost in the 3D experience produced by the two images on two different lenses. At one point I nearly fell over the dog, and in the end decided to put a swivel chair down in the middle of the room so I could spin around.

If I understand it correctly, the App makes use of the gyroscope in your phone, and therefore tracks your movement. This gives the appearance of moving around in the virtual world. Although not strictly part of the product - you can play with a number of VR worlds including:-

* Virtual tour of Versailles Palace.

While waiting for my Oculus Rift Dev Kit 2 to arrive, I thought I would fiddle around with some inexpensive VR. After reading about Google Cardboard, I decided to order this product as it looked easy enough to put together.

So, after receiving the $19.95 I Am Cardboard, it took me about 2 minutes to figure out how it would interlock, and about 1 minute to complete it; easy enough!

Now down to the performance.

For starters, DON'T listen to the reviews that claim this is also compatible with IOS. Trust me, it's not! The lens are spaced for the larger android phones. On an iphone, you will get awful overlapping images, no matter how great the app is, not to mention, many of the best apps are made for Android phones, with very few to choose from on IOS. This + IOS = Skip!.

Not having an android phone (though I'm switching to a Galaxy when my contract is up), I decided to see if I can manually hold my nexus 7 Tablet (current gen) against the back to see if it would work. It turns out that half the apps I tried did work, but here's the thing:
The apps that fill the entire 7" screen will not work correctly -- the image is just too big, but apps that think they're running on a phone (shrunken down to the resolution of a phone on your tablet), work amazingly-well. Now I can see what all the hoopla was about. So basically that's it. For the best experience, you need an Android phone -- that's the way it was designed, and that's the way it will yield the best results.

My only gripes with the actual product:
- No way to adjust lens separation.
- The cardboard will pick up your skin oils, so expect it to get pretty messy within minutes.
- The tabs that lock into their matching slots of the cardboard will begin to fray in no time.

I was worried this product was a scam, but it's not a scam. I received the cardboard in two days.
I Am Cardboard was easy to assemble and works, just like The Google I/O version.

What fun! This is a perfect gift for the budding nerd in late middle school or high school. The assembly is a little confusing, but comes together just fine once you get the idea. Recent model smart phone required and there don't seem to be a lot of apps available (yet). Even my skeptical non-techie friends thought it was cool.
