Best VR headset for the buck.

Also not only is there then an unnecessary force on the cardboard from the magnet but I think the adhesive strip either isn't big enough nor sticky enough.

It's simple, it's fun, and you can really get into it.

I was concered about which of the many Cardboards options available on the internet to buy. After LOTS of research I ended up choosing this options, the main worry should be the LENSES this is the most crucial part of the whole sets and I AM CARDBOARD packs the best ones you can get, I mailed them and they quickly answer me giving me a detailed explanation about the kind of lenses they use, how many different leneses they have tried and why they think this ones are the best. The cardboard it self its very good quality, machine cut perfectly and feels very sturdy and strong. My only complain would be the instructions, its actually very easy to assemble but the instructions are just some simple and not so clear diagrams drawn on the cardboard itself, I was worried about "cutting" some part (you have to do it, but I was worried to cut the wrong place or something) Anyways In the end the experience was great. Just a shame my Note 3 doesn't fit correcly, cant close the cover and part of the phone comes out from sides and top, still can watch the effect correctly but holding the phone on a weird position. Maybe a kinda bigger version for the very popular Note 3, OnePlus One, etc? (5.5"+ phones).

I have to say I was a little skeptical when I first heard of "Google Cardboard", but now I love it.

Here's why....

What is it?
--------------
You may have heard on the news about the "Oculus" project which for a couple of hundred pounds aims to bring Virtual Reality to masses, well this does a fairly good job for a lot less. It's effectively a virtual reality headset kit built out (mainly) of, yes, you guessed it, cardboard.

The kit itself is is made primarily of cardboard, but includes two lenses you look through into an App on your Android phone to turn your smartphone into a Virtual Reality headset. It helpfully comes with a sketch picture of what you're building, and I had it built within a few minutes. There is also lots of help on the web if you get stuck.

Once assembled you download the "Google Cardboard" App, and drop in your Android smartphone into the headset and fix it in place with velcro, and off you go. This one does not come with a built in NFC tag that triggers the App to start - but that’s no big deal.

What's it like?
------------------
In a word - weird. I found myself getting really lost in the 3D experience produced by the two images on two different lenses. At one point I nearly fell over the dog, and in the end decided to put a swivel chair down in the middle of the room so I could spin around.

If I understand it correctly, the App makes use of the gyroscope in your phone, and therefore tracks your movement. This gives the appearance of moving around in the virtual world. Although not strictly part of the product - you can play with a number of VR worlds including:-

* Virtual tour of Versailles Palace.

What fun! This is a perfect gift for the budding nerd in late middle school or high school. The assembly is a little confusing, but comes together just fine once you get the idea. Recent model smart phone required and there don't seem to be a lot of apps available (yet). Even my skeptical non-techie friends thought it was cool.

This was a fantastic purchase and quasi-substitute for the Ocu-Rift. (So says my 10 year old son!) We also expanded the Velcro usage and strategically placed opposing self-adhesive parts to construct a headband and to reinforce the phone compartment to minimize movement of the phone.

Great product - very similar to Google's I/O edition.
Pro:
-Sturdy cardboard
-High quality lenses
-Fits larger phones (such as the m8) without difficulty

Cons:
-People who wear glasses will likely need to modify it
-Comes with almost no folding instructions
-Picks up oils on face quickly - see below for my tips
Like other reviewers, I had some difficulty at first figuring out how it folded together - I handled it carefully in fear of bending something the wrong way, but for cardboard, it feels pretty sturdy. Watching a youtube video cleared up all my setup confusion, and it folded together quite nicely.
Size-wise, it has it's advantages and disadvantages. My HTC m8 fits well into it, with the speaker bars on the top and bottom sticking out the sides - that much is to be expected, I suppose, and did not affect the 3D aspect. However, since I wear glasses, it wouldn't fit comfortably on my face without setting my glasses askew - I fixed this by cutting some notches in each side.

It also soaked up the oils on my face pretty darn quickly, especially on the forehead and nose bridge areas. I solved this issue by putting an extra NFC tag I had laying around where my forehead pressed against the cardboard, and set it to open the Cardboard app when tapped, since this model doesn't come with pre-set up NFC. You're definitely going to want to put something between the lenses to stop the cardboard from immediately falling apart from touching your face - a piece of tape would probably even work fine.
