In fact, I just found Matte's first book - Finding God's Will - and I'm looking forward to diving into that one as well.

What a great book! It is easy reading for a new Christian or someone just beginning their investigation of Biblical teaching and considering belief. Christians who've studied the Gospel of John - even for decades - will find Gregg Matte's fresh insights and creative, highly-readable chapters an enjoyable and challenging read. The "for further reflection and discussion" section following the chapters provides a useful tool to make the book attractive for Bible Study groups or book clubs. The contemporary touch of including "The 'I AM' Playlist Pick" suggestions sprinkled through the book point the reader to downloads of Christian music selections that further express the message and help make this book the perfect graduation gift for high school or college folks. You'll want to purchase copies for yourself, family members and friends.

First, the book is very readable, which is essential considering the saturated market of books. More importantly, the book is critically insightful to the purpose of Jesus' ministry. It begins by discussing the miracles of Jesus recorded in the book of John. If Jesus could heal and was truly compassionate why didn't he heal everyone? That is a question that we continue to struggle with today. The book does an excellent job, interspersed with illustrations, showing the main purpose why Jesus performed each of the miracles recorded in John. Which comes to the second half of the book-addressing Jesus repeatedly stating "I am" followed by his describing essential parts of his nature that he considers important for us to know. A must read for anyone wanting to know what Jesus meant when he repeatly stated, "I am" and how these sayings relate to us.

I enjoyed Matte's take on the "I AM's" of Jesus and how that impact how we view ourselves. It reminded me of Col. 3:3 - "For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God". Our "real life" is hidden with Christ, so we CANNOT know who we really are, unless we know Him. So, the better we get to KNOW "I AM", the better we can know who "i am".

Awesome

The word of God gives us clear direction on who we are, and what we are to do. Pastor Gregg shows us from the word of God the blue print for our life with Christ.

Gregg Matte is a blessed preacher and The Lord speaks through him in the writing of this book. The life illustrations and analogies that he gives will make the word more applicable. His knowledge of the word and its historical context will help you to see these statements of Jesus in a new light. Whether you are a new believer or have been in church your whole life, there are lessons to be gleaned from this reading.

The book discusses the miracles and "I am" statements of Jesus as told in the Gospel of John. I have read the Book of John many times, but never have I thought about these miracles in the way they are discussed in this book. Similarly, I have, in the past, underestimated the beauty and power of Jesus' "I am" claims. It is a really good book/study for a group that wants a better understanding of who Jesus was as man on earth and why he did what he did and who, because of that, we, as Christians, are supposed to be.
