Product Description

Earwigs can be a destructive nuisance damaging fresh fruit, seedlings, and the petals and pollen of many plants. Earwigs that fall into wells can also contaminate water supplies! This reusable Earwig Trap will greatly hinder earwig infestation with ease. Simply fill the trap with soapy water and bait. The bugs will be attracted to the trap, fall in, and drown. Common items found in your kitchen; fish oil, castor oil, soy sauce, and ripe fruit, make great bait, and they are non toxic. Place the trap in gardens under shrubberies, along fences, in woodpiles, or at the base of trees. Wash out traps with soap and water, and re-bait when the trap is full. Box has 4 traps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great traps for a pesky problem, July 14, 2009
Due to the abnormal amount of rain in Utah we have been overcome by earwigs. I can handle spiders and ants, but earwigs are where I draw the line. Besides they have always reminded me of the bugs from Wrath of Kahn from Star Trek.

I was desperate to get rid of these intruders. I had read on how to get rid of them, with over ripe fruits in bowls of soapy water, but all my efforts did not pay off. I also think I used the wrong kind of bowl, they just never made it into the bowl or slipped off the sides.

Also leaving out a bowl of soapy water, where my cats could gain access to it was out of the question.

I like the design of the traps, they are simple to use, and best of all, they work! What I don't like is cleaning them out, but that is also very simple, just wash them out with hot water and presto you have clean traps again!

Through trial and error, lots of error, I have found that rotting grapes, and cantaloupe, work best. Also if you plan on storing the fruit in the fridge, write on the outside of the zip lock bag that this is not to be eaten. I am still trying to get the picture of my husband eating the bait for the traps one morning out of my mind.

So put a small amount of water, about a Tablespoon and a drop of dish soap in the trap, then place the piece of fruit in the middle of the trap, put the lid on and you are ready to catch those pesky bugs. Also I have found that rubbing the fruit on the top of the lid entices more of the earwigs towards the traps.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading, September 25, 2010

The box indicates that the traps are dark in color, however the traps are clear. Earwigs like the dark - it didn't work at all. In addition, they are very small about half the size of a hockey puck. You are better off making your own.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me, September 12, 2009

Maybe it was user error, but I did follow the instructions. These traps did not work for me. I caught one earwig with four of them. I had better luck just moving furniture around and squashing them when they started to run for cover. They weren't a lot of money, but I still feel like it was a waste.
