On any hiking map I've had, it is noted where public parking is. Very strangely, this giant 2 sided map shows roads, but not where parking is located. That means going to other maps and the internet to plan your hike. Hiking trails are noted on the map of course, but there is no indication of color blazes for each trail. Not all maps have that but the better ones do. Finally the Catskills cover a large amount of area and the detail level one gets on this map -- because it is trying to get all of the catskills on one 2 sided map -- may not be sufficient for a hike unless you also have a compass with you. Granted you _should_ have a compass with you anyway but on the other hand, I wouldn't want to rely on this map as my primary hiking map.

All in all I am being generous with the 3 star review. This map may be water-resistant(which is nice), but it looks under-researched and rushed. Get a different map that better shows the specific trails you want to hike. You'll be a lot happier with a better-scaled map.

We purchased this map as well as the corresponding guide book. Didn't realize the book came with the same map, however that one is not waterproof. The distances on the map varied slightly from those on the trail markers, but I have no idea which is correct. Anyway, we got soaked, and the map stayed strong, so I'm glad we had two!
