For 45 years hikers have relied on the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Massachusetts Trail Guide to provide the most comprehensive guide available about the Bay States beautiful and diverse terrain. This revised and updated edition provides detailed descriptions of more than 360 trails across the state, including 15 new trails not included in the previous edition. You’ll also find a brand-new, GPS-rendered pull-out map, with trail segment mileage, improved color scheme, and better mountain peak icons. Locator maps at the beginning of each section have also been improved, and now include elevation gains. Whether you’re looking for a short excursion in the Blue Hills, a daylong adventure on Mount Greylock, or an overnight trip along the Appalachian Trail, the Massachusetts Trail Guide is a must-have for every hiker trekking in the Bay State.
Thanks for visiting my page. I'm an outdoor writer and photographer from Massachusetts whose main interests are natural areas, wildlife, and history of New England, as well as national parks and other special places.
In addition to the items listed here, I'm currently finishing a viewing guide to New England wildlife, which will be released in the spring of 2011, and self-published a photo book about central Massachusetts in 2008. I was a regular contributor to Natural New England magazine from 2000 to 2006 and have also contributed to AMC Outdoors, Massachusetts Wildlife, and local conservation groups. I was a historical researcher and archivist at Harvard University's research forest in central Massachusetts for 10 years and a consultant for the Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust.
In addition to writing, I've been building a collection of images, which may be viewed at johnburkphoto.ifp3.com, with recent updates on a Facebook page 'John Burk Nature, Outdoor, Travel Photography and Writing.' Please feel free to visit these sites and contact me.
