5.0 out of 5 stars Great 90 nm 939 socket CPU for its heyday, August 20, 2009

OK, this 90 nm production AMD is getting close to 6 years old. Great for its day and age, great running XPPro on a backup rig. If you buy one be sure it's a Venice core as the design allows for massive overclocking. Earlier Barton's ran OK on Southbridge designed mobo's but really smoked on Asus A8V deluxe. Going price OEM w/o heatsink & fan as of 08/09 is around $30 bucks.

I've had this processor for 2 years now. When I bought it, it was already on the low-cost side. Two burnt motherboards (both ASUS, btw) and this thing still works. Great for office / Internet / basic videos. Works best without Vista. I never tried to overclock.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid and low power consumption., July 23, 2009
This review is from: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Processor Socket 939 (Personal Computers)
I've had this guy for 5 years and still hasn't let up. The little single core that could would be a good headline for this CPU. Comes 64bit ready which was pretty nifty way back when. Fairly low power consumption rated at 67 Watts compared to others available that are over 100W.

Of course nowadays anyone looking to buy a socket 939 CPU needs to take a good long look at what they are trying to accomplish. If your on a socket 939 you're probably also on an AGP slot motherboard. Both of which have been outdated very significantly for years now.

A nice little processor, but not worth buying in today's market except for maybe trying to squeeze a few more months out of an old computer.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most reliable CPU's I've ever had, January 25, 2012

...but I bought mine in 2004. The PC it went into sported outrageous specs like an NVIDIA 6800 Ultra video card, a 74GB Raptor drive (later updated to two in RAID0) and 1 whole GB of RAM (later updated to 2GB), all stuffed and wired pridefully into a Lian Li tower. Since then, I've bought two replacement computers. So as you can guess, it's a bit on the dated side. Why amazon (as of Jan 2012) wants $100 for it other than that it might be hard-to-get legacy gear, I have no idea. I don't know why the list price is still marked up so high. Seriously? As valuable as current-gen CPU's? It reminds me of Fred Meyer charging way too much for hardware that should be in the years-old bargain bin.

So don't consider this single-core CPU unless you absolutely have to replace one that somehow burnt out and can't afford to replace the motherboard and RAM as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Decent., March 26, 2007
This review is from: AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Processor Socket 939 (Personal Computers)
Ahhh... AMD. Haven't had a problem yet. But then, I don't play with overclocking. The CPU fan they ship with is decent. Said fan already has some sort of thermal compound on it. So far, I'm pleased.
