I searched on Newegg, Tiger Direct, and many other assorted websites for an AM2, and this was the best I could find that was in stock. It was used, and it is an awesome upgrade from a single core 1.7GHz. Noticeable improvement to system performance.

Wow, this is a pretty simple upgrade that anyone can do! My computer came with a 4000+ processor and upgraded to this one. I bought this as the motherboard in my computer was limited up to an AMD 5600+ processor. Performance is definitely better, not so much as speed, but more on how much the processing is done. I mainly use my computer as the centerpiece of my music home studio and this processor has helped clear some pops and clicks that I could not take, even after working with latency compensation. Price as still a little more than I wanted, seeing how there are some Quad core processors almost at the same price range. All in all it was a good interim upgrade before jumping to a Quad or a Hex core computer.

I bought this CPU about a year ago to upgrade an old AGP computer system to use as a Folding@home box. The 2.9ghz dual-core was quite a power boost over the 1.9ghz dual-core it replaced. This CPU would be a good choice for a small HTPC or general use computer or light gamer PC.

Purchased this CPU based on the Brisbane architecture's reputation for speed without heat. At just 65 TDP, this chip hums right along, barely exceeding 40 Celsius under heavy workload.

My rig is a tiny micro-ATX 'mini-tower' with Cooler Master's little 101 heatsink and twin 80mm Noctua PWM fans. My ASRock motherboard mildly overclocks this chip to a bit over 3GHz, and paired with just 4gb of DDR2 RAM, a 2gb video card, and a 150 gig Velociraptor hard drive, I'm very happy with the system's speed. (I had a half dozen tabs open while downloading dozens of Windoze7 updates and watching HD video from NY Times' website, and it was still like changing channels on cable TV. Not bad for a dirt cheap, eight year old processor !)

As the seller explained, it did take nearly four weeks for the "Used, Good Condition" item to get here from China, but for 30 bucks, it was definitely worth the wait. (Since I was building my first 'Franken-puter' from a pile of used parts, I ordered this first, and accumulated the other components in the meantime...) It arrived carefully packaged in anti-static packaging with all pins straight, and surrounded by foam in a small cardboard box. I'm very satisfied with this purchase from 'Specialty China' re-sellers !
