4.0 out of 5 stars A little hot but well worth it for speed
I upgraded my AMD 939 socket 4400+ to this AM2 socket 6000+ CPU and I'm very satisfied with the results. You can get a better deal by overclocking a Intel chip but if you're just looking for fast, reliable, value CPU this AMD chip's the solution. The only reason I'm rating it four stars is the fact this chip runs a little hot. Using the cool n quiet function, my CPU was...

3.0 out of 5 stars CAN'T INSTALL
My computer is Lenovo 3000 J115 bought in Nov 06. When trying to change out the processor (no problem) and then the heatsink, I find the fancy dual stage heatsink does not fit. The copper tubes do not allow the bottom heatsink to seat down against the top of the processor. Looks like i will have to replace the heatsink retaining frame. It is held down by 4 screws. Are...

Using the cool n quiet function, my CPU was running at 45C at 1300 RPM on the fan. After I turned off this function on my CPU fan and set it to maximum I was able to achieve 35C at 2400 RPM. So at the cost of performance, my computer's sound went up. But I'm still very happy with the results. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars 89W instead of 125W, November 10, 2008
This review is from: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ 3.0 GHz Processor (Personal Computers)
When I ordered this I thought I would be sent the 125W 90nm, but instead received the 89W 90nm 6000+, which is better because I found out later my motherboard can only handle up to 95W so I lucked out there. With the stock cooler I found it runs very cool at around 30-40C depending on what I am doing and which core (Core #2 runs about 10C hotter idle).

I am not sure why this product is mislabeled as the 125W, maybe amazon needs to change it or maybe it was just luck. But I am very happy with this CPU overall, a huge difference from my old X2 3800+.

5.0 out of 5 stars Faster than a speeding bullet, January 20, 2008

This review is from: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ 3.0 GHz Processor (Personal Computers)
I originally had the amd sempron processors which is was slower than malasis when i installe this bad baby all it did was left dust in the wind. This chip is do fast i couldn't believe i never bought it earlier. it handles any game especially crysis with no problem on top of that it was very easy to install. i reccommend this product to anyone who wants to run applications at the speed of light.

Pros: Handles great. I didn't think it could surprise me in multitasking, but there is an obvious difference from my old Core Duo. AMD doesn't give you a cheap aluminum heat sink, this baby came with a very impressive (for being stock) copper type cooler - makes me want to smash to pieces my Zalman cooled Intel.

Cons: Could have more cache, which seems to be where AMD downside is. As far as the memory controller goes - I would still choose it before FSB.

Other Thoughts: AMD happens to be better for the money, no doubt about that. I've been switching camps every 18 months for the past 12 years, but Intel doesn't seem to want to give us a good deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a Processor, It's Fast and It Works, November 16, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ 3.0 GHz Processor (Personal Computers)
It's fast and it works. What else can I say? It's a processor! Because it is a 6000+, it should last me a number of years and might find a home in other motherboards during that time. It's been running 2 months continuously with no issues on a M2NPV-VM motherboard. Just be aware that because this is a dual-core, not all programs (especially older ones) were written with this type of processor in mind --- without patching your operating system, you might experience things like stuttering in-game video (NOT gameplay), but note that this is a software issue and NOT an issue with the processor. Otherwise, thanks Amazon and AMD for a great deal!

4.0 out of 5 stars What I expected, November 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ 3.0 GHz Processor (Personal Computers)
Pretty straight forward install. Can already set with thermal grease making it easy to install. Haven't had it long enough to know it's quality, but it functions as expected. The only challenge I had was locking down the fan. It took a lot more pressure than I expected. I thought I was going to break the board. This was my first cpu install so part of my ignorance. It would have been nice for them to note that it would be quite tight. I had to call a friend of mine that build computers to make sure I was doing this right.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Processor, October 24, 2008
This review is from: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ 3.0 GHz Processor (Personal Computers)
For the price, it's a really great processor and I haven't had any problems with temperature, so I guess my stock fans are good enough. I can now multitask with no problem at all. I can listen to my music and download a movie and play a game all at the same time without having to worry about lagging or freezing up. Awesome price on this item as well, I'd recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade.
