5.0 out of 5 stars Typing my review on the computer being run by a FX-60...4 years later.
It has been four years now since I built my first PC, and included in it was the AMD FX-60. It was the first Dual-core processor specifically designed with gaming in mind. Let me just tell you that even to this day (with the help of nvidia 8800 GTS graphics card) it plays my favorite games at top specs. It is fast and peppy still while running Windows XP professional, and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Just upgrade instead.
I was lazy and decided to get this processor instead of upgrading my entire rig (still have a 939 socket mobo) and now I really regret it.

After listening to claims that this processor is still able to "run through almost anything I throw at it" and "gets the job done, even now" from different people I decided to buy this since I did not want to buy a new...

I was lazy and decided to get this processor instead of upgrading my entire rig (still have a 939 socket mobo) and now I really regret it.

After listening to claims that this processor is still able to "run through almost anything I throw at it" and "gets the job done, even now" from different people I decided to buy this since I did not want to buy a new mobo and ram. Needless to say, i'm not impressed with this processor after upgrading from the 4200+. I expected to over clock this thing to 3ghz on a high end fan but after a day of tweaking and testing, I can't go any higher than 2.8ghz stable. I feel sorry for all the people that bought this thing when it was $600-$800 as the performance is hardly better than my 4200+ overclocked to 2.55ghz.

Long story short. Go buy newer (better) processors that are much cheaper than this primitive cpu, don't be lazy and just upgrade everything. But I'm sure most of you already knew that.

Other than that, it got here fast enough and matched the description.

Let me just tell you that even to this day (with the help of nvidia 8800 GTS graphics card) it plays my favorite games at top specs. It is fast and peppy still while running Windows XP professional, and I am glad I bought this little processor. Not one problem with it and it is still heavily sought after by modders. Try and find this processor for under $250 on ebay. Good luck. I can't think of another CPU that is 4+ years old that has held its value like the FX-60.

I'm sure I will get another 2-3 years out of this puppy. So, if you want to build a PC for cheap by the FX-60. It runs everything out there (day to day stuff) perfectly still. It's too bad AMD stopped putting the quality they put in this processor into their stuff of today (2009). Oh well.
