Product Description

The AMD Athlon II X4 631 offers mainstream users quad-core processing power at an exceptionally affordable price. The processor features four cores running at 2.6 GHz each--enough processing power to run several intensive applications at once without slowdown. You'll be able to multitask more effectively, accomplishing more in less time. The processor also has a brand new FM1 socket, which requires a FM1 compatible motherboard.

Excellent CPU. 4 cores of pure power, it is stable and can oveclocking, in combination with A75M-UD2H Gigabyte motherboard is a good option for those who have a dedicated video card. This CPU highly recommended

This little, inexpensive processor really performs. I have it in a machine with an AMD HD6850 video card and it handles all gaming I can throw at it, turned all the way up. It is suprisingly fast. At this point, the best bang for the buck processor I have ever used. Despite the Athlon II label, this processor has almost nothing in common with most of the other processors that have the Athlon II name. It is much closer to an A series processor than most other Athlon IIs. It runs on the FM1 (see more below) socket rather than the AM3 that most Athlon IIs run on.

One word of caution, although it runs on the FM1 socket, it does NOT have onboard video. You will have to have a separate video card. In fact, this is essentially a quad-core A series processor with the video removed to allow for better cooling, allowing it to run faster than its A series counterparts. It includes the turbo-core feature, allowing it to overclock itself if needed. However, you must have a separate video card to use it. FM1 motherboards do not contain video on the board, it is part of the A series processor, so no FM1 motherboard video will work with this processor. That was not an issue for me since I needed faster video than I could get onboard anyway. Mating it with a good video card, it works amazingly well.

On the Windows performance index, this processor shows a little slower than the AMD Phenom II 955, but that is because the Windows performance index doesn't accurately account for the turbo-core feature. CPU Benchmark more accurately shows it a little above the Phenom II 965 and FX-4100 for about half the price.

With a separate video card, this works great. I am very pleased.

Quad core for cheep. Pair it up with a decent FM1 motherboard and an ATI 6850 for a cheep gaming rig.

Fast, clean performance, I highly suggest this processor. Delivery was also fairly quick. This comes with a heatsink fan if you were curious! Installs very easy into an FM1 board. Make sure you have a board with integrated graphics or have a graphics card!
