AMD Socket AM2 AM2+ AM3 CPU Retention Retainer Bracket Holder

Customer Reviews

Great part, thank you.
Magnetic.gaze
The bracket was the right size for my motherboard, but the pin holes were too small to accept the pins (not supplied with bracket).

Worked great and fit perfectly for my fan!

This 2-part (a bracket and a base) item will save replacing a motherboard (MB) when the plastic tab that retains the CPU heat sink breaks off of the bracket. There is only one size bracket from amazon.com for the AM2, AM2+, and 940 CPU sockets and the bracket. Note: since the threaded inserts on the old bracket base may be slightly different on the replacment one, the base will also probably have to be replaced. If you can remove the cover over the reverse side of the MB you can leave the MB in place in the case. Four screws hold the two new bracket/base parts onto the MB.
After installing the bracket clean the old heat-sink compound from the CPU and heat-sink follow instructions to reapply new heat-sink compound to the CPU, and reattach the heatsink to the new bracket.
This was an easy repair for anyone who is comfortable opening the case and using a screwdriver. My total repair time was 15 minutes.

I purchased this bracket to replace my original CPU fan bracket that had broken after 5+ years. As the title states, this one lasted 6 weeks before one of the small plastic tabs broke off. This occurred on a standard sized ATX motherboard in a machine that had literally not been touched since the replacement bracket was installed.

Installed for a customer, customer came back after 11 months with the heatsink rattling around because the bracket broke again. At least the oem (HP) broke after 5 years.

I don't know if the rest of the fan is off somehow and making these bracket clips break, but this one had the clip break off shortly after I installed it, just like the one I was replacing. I have never had this happen on any computer I built or worked on. Not a very good design I'm guessing...

Bought to replace OEM bracket that had broken on an old AM2 board that was in storage and had been jostled around. Swapped new bracket on to board, installed board in a case that would be standing vertically with a mid-sized Cooler Master aftermarket heatsink/fan combo that isn't overly heavy. Bracket seemed to hold OK at first, but after about 2 weeks, on of the tabs to hold down the heatsink/fan combo snapped.

Avoid. Contact motherboard manufacturer for real OEM replacement instead that isn't made out of cheaper grade plastic.

I received 1 of these items after I thought i ordered 2. I figured one might break so I ordered 2 (I thought). When i installed the item it crushed under pressure of the heat sink. Since i was only sent one I am still not using my my awesome gaming computer due to a faulty heat sink bracket I received from them.

the item i revived was not the same as pictured. the one i received is thicker and the holes for the pins are way too small to fit standard pin size so it will have to be modified for me to use it. now for the main thing, i know the part was cheap, but for the 5 bucks in shipping it could have been in a small box, but no. i received this bracket in a used fedex bag wrapped in crappy sticky plastic with a note to give them a 5* rating for a bribe! i have never EVER received something from a seller in shipping material like this, this has to be the WORST seller i have ever received anything from. truthfully even tho it was only 6 bucks i still feel i got ripped off.
i thought by looking at there feedback this would be legit, but now i know they bribe 5* ratings out of there customers, sad. i suggest you think twice about buying from them unless you want some cheap apple product accessory for giving them a 5* rating.
