Processor Series
This is the name the manufacturer gives to a series of CPUs using the same technology. You will want to make sure your chosen CPU matches the type your motherboard is designed to accept.

Processor Speed
Processor speed indicates how quickly the CPU can perform calculations. Higher speeds allow for faster calculations, meaning less wait time.

Number of Cores
Many modern CPUs have multiple cores. The number of cores is the number of processors that make up the CPU. Having more cores allows the CPU to perform more calculations at once, meaning less wait time.

CPU Socket Type
The socket type is the kind of connection used to mount the CPU to the motherboard. Intel and AMD each make their own types of sockets. You will want to make sure your new CPU socket type matches that of your chosen motherboard.
It's just fast, you wait on nothing. I said to myself, What would it take to bring this 8320 to a complete lockup? So after a little work I was able to lock it up, and this is what it took. Prime95, watching a HD movie, Superpi, Youtube HQ video, and decoding a video to HD in realtime. Thats what it took to lock it up. Believe all the negative reviews if you want, don't believe anything I say. That's your right. But this thing is really fast, not the fastest, but fast and it can handle a lot apps at one time. The price is ridiculously low for what you get in return. Smooth as butter.

Pros: Price. Eight cores for super multitasking. Overclocking stable to 4.2Ghz so far. No need to heat your house, just leave this thing running.
No Issues!!! Install went as perfect as one would hope.
Windows Experience Index gave it a 7.8 for Processor Calculations on Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise Edition.
WinRAR for uncompressing files, video editing, & rendering is Blazing FAST!!!
Cons: HEAT! Stock air cooling is NOT enough when running over 62.5% (5 mprime worker threads tested). With room temp at 24ºC CPU temps get 80ºC - 85ºC when running 5 mprime workers for more than 5 minutes.
Other Thoughts: Inexpensive closed liquid cooling is enough to remedy the heat issue. I am using Antec's Kuhler H2O 620 and overclocked to 4.2Ghz and holding 43ºC at 100% cpu usage by mprime (8 worker threads) for 8+days without issue.

This cpu is a great deal for the price. Lets face it Intel makes a faster cpu, but this cpu has more bang for the buck. This cpu blows my old cpu (AMD x2 Phenom 555 Black E.) out of the water. I bought this cpu because my hard drive was failing and needed a new drive. My mobo was SATA 2 (3 gb/s) and I thought it would be a good time to upgrade to SATA 3 (6gb/s). I got a new mobo , ssd , and cpu for under $300. I also got a liquid cpu cooler to go with it which Amazon had on sale, which keeps this FX cpu cooler than my old one with a beefy heat sink/fan style cpu cooler. This FX 8320 is made by Piledriver and not Bulldozer which was not AMD's finest moment. I also play Battlefield 3 and my old cpu ran at 100% which caused lag. Now it peaks at around 60% - 70% with no lag.

Just purchased the Vishera FX-8320 to replace my old Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition @ 3.8 GHz. I do a lot of media encoding and gaming, so it was time to give my system some fresh legs. Thankfully due to AMD's socket roadmap, my older AM3+ 890-GXM65 motherboard was compatible with the new FX-Vishera core! Now that is value.
I havent done any extensive testing or benchmarks, but I will say easily out of the box I am running at 4.1 GHz by simply upping the clock multiplier, no voltage changes. My machine has already handled over 30 HD bluray encodes with DTS-HD Master tracks without a hiccup. Off the top of my head I'd say I'm seeing at a least a 30% performance increase in media encoding alone, thanks to the 8 cores and multithreading of Handbrake. HD encoding is much quicker, and previously my Phenom II X4 could not handle HD audio encoding without messing up the file.
My system specs; MSI 890GXM-65 Motherboard FX-8320 "Vishera" @ 4.1 Ghz 8 GB DDR3-1600 AMD HD6950 2GB video
Other thoughts: CPU idles @ 17*C w/ my Hyper 212+ and arctic silver 5 grease 100% load during encodes @ 52*C
Completely worth the $150 to upgrade my old Phenom. I can't reiterate enough the VALUE AMD allows with their processor roadmaps. If you have a compatible AM3+ socket, and are considering an upgrade, go for it, as Vishera has proven to be a modest performance increase over "Bulldozer".

Just want to pass along my results since I've had a heck of a time finding any info on how well the 8320 can clock. Hopefully it helps someone else decide if they want to save money or not.
*Edit* 4.5Ghz stable. Switch off LLC if you have trouble. I know some places say have it on, others turn it off. In my case it is what was requiring me to push higher voltages when it wasn't needed. Also why I couldn't get more than 4.3Ghz stable on initial tests. Currently running 4.5Ghz with 1.3625v on the CPU. Heat under Prime load hits about 58C. Bout the max I can take this on air cooling. Any higher and the temps go into the dangerzone 60C range.
Benches, all I managed to do atm is Cinebench. Sorry, just got the thing. Haven't had a ton of time.

The CPU comes in a metal tin box just like the initial Bulldozers did. It is nice, but rather weak. If you are ordering online be prepared for it to arrive dented. I ordered via Tiger and they wrapped it only in paper then stuck it in a box far too big. It arrived with one end dented in and dents all up and down a side of it. Similar to how I've seen stuff shipped through here. So just to prepare you, expect sloppy shipping.
There is a stock heatsink that comes with it. Actually is pretty decent looking. Good copper base and heatpipes.Read more ›
