I went with the new OCZ/AMD Radeon R7 lineup since the computer has an AMD processor.

The new drive arrived nicely packaged with 3.5-inch adapter and screws, although I only needed the new drive itself.

The Acronis True Image HD cloning software was straightforward, but I had to do an installation repair on the software before it would accept the key. The actual data transfer took a little over an hour with the new drive connected externally via USB 3.0.

The 7mm Radeon R7 fit perfectly where the 9.5mm WD had been without any need for spacers. I just removed the old drive-and-bracket, switched the bracket to the new drive, and installed the new drive-and-bracket.

The computer booted right up with the new drive.

Update October 20, 2014

The drive has performed excellently so far. I particularly notice better performance with video from my capture card/TV Tuner.

The drive performs well with my AMD processor, although the little processor is now clearly the limiting factor in the netbook. I really love the upgrade.

I found OCZ customer service to be particularly helpful during installation and operation.

The Toshiba/OCZ/AMD collaboration is a winner!

Jim

Update March 6, 2015

I almost dropped my rating a few weeks ago. I had noticed that it would choke after a week to ten days. I had figured out how to reset it but it was a pain in the butt. Fortuitously, OCZ/Radeon came out with a firmware update that seems to have fixed the problem.

Make sure you have the latest firmware.

Having replace the hard drive in my wife's laptop a 6 mos. ago as she was having some issues I was really impressed with the performance of the SSD and decided to replace the drive in my fairly new laptop. I purchased this drive as I have been an AMD fan for over 20 years having used their chips in dozens of computers I have built for friends and family. I purchased the drive in December 2014 and installed it using the included Acronis software to image the drive rather than a clean install. The installation was fast and problem free and the increased performance was nice. No problems until yesterday when I turned the computer on and got a message indicating no drive installed. I opened the laptop and made sure the connections were tight but to no avail. I then took the drive and put it into a USB external enclosure. The drive could not be read. I have emailed tech support but a failure after only 3 months is not a good indicator of the quality of this drive.

Noting that I've had this device for only a few days, I must say I'm quite pleased. I reckon if it mattered much I'd replace all my hard drives with these things.

I work on the practical side of life, including electronics. While many like to do benchmarks and such, my preference orients towards "what will the effect be on what I do" philosophy. I don't particularly care what benchmarks say. Having said that, I put this SSD into my FX8350 system, MB is msi 970-G46, not a high end board. I run 15 GB ram and two 1tb hard drives. Operating systems are Linux (1 ea Kubuntu 14.10 x86 and x64, Kubuntu 15.04 beta1, and on the SSD Kubuntu 14.04.2 x64) and Windows. Mainly I use Kubuntu on the SSD. The others boot from hard drive.

So, installation of 14.04.2 required somewhat less than half the time. Usually I set the install going and go away for half an hour. By then, it's pretty well complete. This time, I returned in about 15 minutes and the thing was done with the install. Impressive. Now, after a few days of use, I find boot time for comparable OS is less than half the time: 14.10 on hdd = 38 seconds, 14.04.2 on ssd 15 seconds. In operation, everything goes faster, including some stuff I didn't expect to speed up, as in programs already loaded. Note that this computer isn't an old dog, just the user (me).

Can't address the transfer program since it is unused here. I have little use for Windows, so don't fool with that junk unless absolutely necessary.

Overall, I'm impressed enough to consider buying more of these for other computers if I think the difference would be worthwhile to the other user here.
For me, five stars. Will update in a few months, after some run in time and after infant mortality period is past.

I tested the following drives connected to SATA-3 ports on the same chipset on a Gigabyte motherboard. Anti-virus auto-protect was temporarily turned off. The test was a 5-pass 1000MB sequential test, done three times each and averaged together. Here are the SSD speed results using CrystalDiskMark 64-bit:

- THIS DRIVE: AMD Radeon R7 Series 240GB 2.5-Inch SATA III 7mm Ultra Slim SSD with Toshiba A19nm MLC NAND RADEON-R7SSD-240G : 468 MB/s read and 506 MB/s write
- Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-7TE250BW) : 510 MB/s read and 480 MB/s write (with Samsung Magician performance boost tuned off)
- Crucial MX100 256GB SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal Solid State Drive CT256MX100SSD1 : 484 MB/s read and 460 MB/s write
- OCZ Storage Solutions Arc 100 Series 240GB 2.5-Inch 7mm SATA III Ultra-Slim Solid State Drive with Toshiba A19nm NAND ARC100-25SAT3-240G : 419 MB/s read and 429 MB/s write
