Fast CPU (fast enough for most things),

Just bought this last weekend to upgrade my PC. I used an ASRock K8NF4G-SATA2 motherboard along with this CPU. AMD has made their budget lineup very complicated because there are several models of the Sempron 3000+. The CPU i bought has a "Palermo" 64bit 1.8ghz core. Benchmarks don't do it justice especially when you compare it to the Athlon 64, but all i can say is that its very zippy. Had no problems installing the cpu but the included fan from AMD makes a loud whooshing noise. If your making a home theatre pc you will want to find an aftermarket cpu cooler.
So if you just need a general purpose computer to do video editing, photo editing, music storage and web browsing (and the latest 3d games are not the centre of your life) then this cpu and a good motherboard is a wise choice. |
