While the topics covered and the information provided is top notch, there are fewer diagrams than the similar USA TODAY Weather Book. So it depends... If you like to read more detailed descriptions - This book is a must have. If you're the kind of person who would rather have brief explainations with many, many illustrations... Then the USA TODAY version is for you.

This Guide is much needed in the field of meteorology. It is neither too obscure techincally, nor too juvenile for the average reader. Virtually every aspect of the subject is handled well, with excellent illustrations. Having dealt with such presentations during my entire career, I recommend it highly.

This book is ideal for both the weather enthusiast and for those simply interested in learning more about weather. Topics vary from broad categories like winds and currents to defining specific terminology used in forecasting. Accounts from survivors of severe weather add a human interest touch to this book about the science of weather. While learning about current research, the reader meets those leading the studies. Beautiful pictures and informative illustrations and diagrams. The AMS Weather Book: The Ultimate Guide to America's Weather

I'm a professional pilot who loves the weather aspect of my job. This book is wonderful due to its many illistrations. Plus there are even a few references to pilots and planes and flying which of course helps keep me interested.

I bought this for a 12 year old boy who wants to be a meteorologist and who just had surgery and was bedridden for weeks. He absolutely loves it! His mom says he keeps it on his nightstand and reads it constantly.

Purchased this item as a Christmas gift based on a recommendation from one our local mets. It provides a nice overview of weather systems. Good reference book for new and old weather chasers.

The Ultimate Guide to America's Weather is a great book. It's easy enough to read that you don't feel like you're struggling through high-level textbook jargon, but it's in-depth enough that you don't feel like you're getting the second-grade synopsis of important topics. The book has full color illustrations that really help you to understand the more complex atmospheric cycles. Plus, the chapters are only two to four pages on each topic. The brief topics, detailed discussion, and avoidance of the overly technical and confusing jargon make the book EXCELLENT for anyone looking to learn more about weather. Highly recommended!
